Pauley signed a minor league contract with the Diamondbacks, Baseball America reports. He will pitch for Triple-A Reno.
ANALYSIS
Since returning from a 50 game suspension, the former big-leaguer will attempt to find his rhythm in the minors. It has been tough going so far however, as he has given up three runs on three hits and two walks in just 2.2 innings.

Prior to a midseason trade to the Tigers, Pauley was putting together a banner season with the Mariners. In 39 appearances for Seattle, Pauley went 5-4 with a 2.15 ERA and 0.994 WHIP in 54.1 innings. He was unable to duplicate that success in Motown, going 0-2 with a 5.95 ERA and 1.627 WHIP in 19.2 innings. Despite the up-and-down season, Pauley limited left-handed hitters to a slash line of .194/.235/.235. The 28-year-old southpaw gives the Tigers a solid left-handed specialist to deploy out of the bullpen, but he'll likely be the team's third choice in those situations, behind Phil Coke and Daniel Schlereth. Aside from the occasional hold, you'll be hard pressed to find much usefulness for Pauley.
Pauley earned a late-June promotion to Seattle after posting a 3.68 ERA at Triple-A Tacoma. He wasn't dominating the level, as his 56 strikeouts in 85.2 innings attest, but he kept his walks down (2.7 BB/9IP). Similar to his time in Seattle. His peripheral stats are far from impressive, but if he limits walks and induces groundballs, he can survive on the mound. He'll compete for the fifth starter's spot in spring training, though he's better suited to a long-relief role.
Pauley was once again tough on batters in the Triple-A International League, cutting down on his homers and walks and breezinig to a 14-4 record for Pawtucket. Unfortunately, his Triple-A success has not translated in his few major league opportunities. He's out of options, so he'll be exposed if they want him back in Pawtucket.
Pauley spent the whole season in Triple-A, starting alright but fading in the second half. He's got back end of the rotation written all over him, but is in the wrong organization. He'll begin the year at Triple-A and might be the minor leaguer on call for spot starts in Boston.
Pauley was part of the kiddie corps that pitched for Boston when the rotation suffered injuries late in the year. When not in the majors, he split his time between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket, not surprisingly having more success at the lower level. He has a good sinker that he mixes with a low-90s fastball, a changeup and a curveball. He projects as a fourth or fifth starter, but not in 2007.
Pauley came to Boston in an offseason trade and posted respectable numbers at Double-A Portland. His fastball tops out in the low 90s and he has a top-notch curve that he uses as an out pitch. He'll probably make the move to Triple-A and could be a No. 4 or 5 starter when he reaches the bigs.
