Anderson was outrighted to Triple-A Nashville on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson spent the majority of the season in the Triple-A in 2015, struggling at the plate to the tune of a .202/.273/.288 slash line, but was a September call-up. The 28-year-old will likely begin the 2016 season in the minors again, but could get recalled if the team is in need of catching depth.

Anderson had a poor 2015 at Triple-A, hitting .202, just a year after a .320 minor league campaign in 2014. He managed only three homers in 292 at-bats and that paucity of power was attached to a 28.9 percent K-rate. Anderson has never shown much pop in the minors and after 11 seasons on the farm (and a mere 68 major league at-bats), he appears to be just system filler as he enters his age-29 season. Unless the A's suffer a multitude of injuries at the catcher position, Anderson should not see much, if any, action in the green and gold, and even if he does, it is unlikely he will provide any fantasy value.
Anderson has received a few cups of coffee over the years, but the majority of the last five seasons have been spent in Triple-A Memphis. He didn't want more of the same in 2013 and refused a minor league assignment, becoming a free agent. The 26-year-old backstop is no longer the future in St. Louis, and his six home runs and .225 batting average in 347 Memphis at-bats aren't exactly the kind of thing you should put on a resume, but the White Sox inked him to provide depth behind the plate.
Although Anderson finally made his way to the majors last year, he didn't play much during his two stints with the Cardinals. Yadier Molina's backup generally doesn't get much playing time, but the retirement of Jason LaRue means that Anderson is one step closer to getting four or five starts a month this year. With the signing of Gerald Laird, however, don't expect Anderson to earn the backup role out of spring training.
Anderson struggled in his second Triple-A stint last year, finishing with an abysmal 10:42 BB:K ratio and a .245/.293/.399 line after a promising debut in 2008 at 21. A June shoulder injury ended his season prematurely. Although Anderson is the top catching prospect in the St. Louis system, Yadier Molina is showing no sign of giving up his job. Anderson will need to prove himself in 2010 just to become Molina's backup in 2011.
Anderson is St. Louis' top catching prospect, and has so far held his own at every level. While he doesn't have a lot of power, he has a keen eye and is a strong contact hitter. Yadier Molina is one of the best catchers in the National League, so he won't be giving up his job to Anderson any time soon. However, with only Jason LaRue ahead of him on the depth chart, Anderson could be Molina's backup as early as this year.
Anderson skipped a level and held his own at Double-A Springfield, hitting .298/.350/.388, but his batting eye dipped with the promotion. At 21, Anderson still has time to improve his offense and defense, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him have success at a position other than catcher when he eventually makes the bigs.
