Closer Watch
Brewers - John Axford pitched a clean ninth inning to pick up the save against the Blue Jays on Monday. This was his second consecutive perfect appearance after allowing eight earned runs in five innings over his previous five relief outings. His 14.40 ERA over that stretch rose his season ERA from 3.54 to 5.55, while he currently sits at a 5.13 ERA right now. The 2012 season has not been kind to Axford after he had two excellent years for the Brewers. However, he still is not in danger of losing his closer role as the rest of the Brewers' bullpen has been just as shaky.

Recommended Pickup
Norichika Aoki, OF, MIL: Prior to being signed by the Brewers last off-season, Aoki was heralded by many as the best hitter in Japan since Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui. That's high praise for the 30-year-old outfielder, and placed a lot of expectations on him from the beginning. Aoki won a spot on the Brewers bench in spring training and was used sparingly at the beginning of the 2012 season. However, with first baseman Mat Gamel's season ending ACL injury, the Brewers have begun to use right fielder Corey Hart at first base. Along with Nyjer Morgan's ineffectiveness this year, the outfield in Milwaukee opened up some, and Aoki played his way right into the mix. After an adjustment period that saw Aoki hitting just .211/.286/.316 through May 8, he has hit .306/.368/.476 since that date. He has been on a fantastic hot streak lately, with a .308 average and .909 OPS in his last 12 games. Aoki appears to be a permanent starter for the Brewers going forward. With his hitting style, he makes a lot of contact and has been driving the ball well. In addition to his hitting, he has good speed and will steal some bases, too. Aoki isn't going to be a superstar like Ichiro, but you could do much worse in the outfield.

Other Recent Recommendations: Anthony Rizzo, Alex Cobb, Trevor Plouffe, Danny Espinosa, Brian Roberts
