Notes:
You may notice Chris Young is not listed this week. He could get a start in Milwaukee, but if the Mets stick to using six starters while ensuring R.A. Dickey's starts are maximized, Young appears to be the odd man out this week. ... I'm not sure whether John Lannan will start this week or next, but I left him off the list for this week regardless. ... I think the Padres go with a six-man rotation now that Andrew Cashneris back. Cashner offers intriguing strikeout potential, but he'll likely be on a strict pitch count all year. ... It's still hard to trust any Astros pitcher, but Lucas Harrell has a 3.83 ERA, surprisingly. ... Pretty shocking to see Stephen Strasburg lit up on Friday. Perhaps he's gassed? ... I realize the Cubs are terrible, but Justin Germano in the rotation? Really? ... Trevor Cahill should see his name floated in trade rumors this winter given the boatload of young arms in Arizona, and with a 3.98 ERA and reasonable contract, the Diamondbacks should find at least a handful of takers. ... Don't sleep on Wily Peralta in NL-only leagues. He should be able to hold down a rotation spot the rest of the way, and with his quality stuff, he could be of value. ... I mentioned Justin Germano earlier, but sticking with the Cubs, Chris Volstad is also terrible. He's one of a handful of starters who actually loses value with two starts as opposed to one. ... Ben Sheets (shoulder) probably is in line for two more starts at best this year, depending on how his latest rehab goes. ... It's sounding like Tommy John surgery is in store for Chad Billingsley. That could leave the Dodgers with a 2013 rotation of Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Josh Beckett, Chris Capuano and Aaron Harang. Still not bad.

Notes: David Price
's sore shoulder is the big news this week. You're going to want to track his progress over the weekend. He's expected to miss just one start, Saturday, Sept. 8 ... Chris Tillman looks to be out for this week due to elbow issues, so I'll have the O's on a five-man rotation. By the way, who would start Game 1 of the ALDS for them - Miguel Gonzalez? ... Ivan Nova (shoulder) appears set to return to the rotation on Sunday, Sept. 9. It would appear that would make Freddy Garcia a two-start starter this week instead of Hiroki Kuroda, but I'm not 100 percent sure there. ... Jered Weaver's shoulder has already caused him to miss one start, but I'm going to guess he returns to the rotation at some point this week. Watch his player notes over the weekend for further information. ... Let's just hope Brandon McCarthy returns strong next year after that scary head injury. A headline on ESPN Friday was this scary "McCarthy facing life-threatening situation." I feel bad for Erick Aybar, whose batted ball led to this frightening situation. Thoughts and prayers if you're so inclined should go McCarthy's way. I'm projecting Dan Straily to start Monday. ...The Rays recalled Chris Archer, who will soon replace Alex Cobb in the rotation. Cobb has showed flashes of being a solid No. 4 starter, and the Rays want to limit his innings to keep him fresh for 2013. ... Jose Quintana has allowed 12 runs in five innings over his last two starts. That's just in case you were wondering about the low ranking. ... A.J. Griffinhas to be used in most formats right now, but I worry about two things: a sub-90 mph fastball and a .227 BABIP. ... Ryan Dempster has notched four consecutive quality starts, so after a rough introduction to the AL, he's settled in nicely. ... Jason Berken replaced Jeff Samardzija in the rotation this week, as the Cubs are shutting Samardzija down after his Sept. 8 start. He could be the team's Opening Day starter next year depending on how things shake out this offseason. ... Aaron Laffey will replace J.A. Happ (broken foot) in the Toronto rotation. Safe to say the Jays need to upgrade their rotation this winter. ... Hector Noesi could start for the Mariners this week, but as I'm not sure when that will happen, I left him off. Hopefully you're not in a position where you really NEED his start this week. ... Royals top prospect Jake Odorizzi could get a couple starts for the Royals this week. He might immediately be the team's top starter. ... I really have no idea whether Roy Oswalt start this week, so I left him off.
