Closer Watch

Colorado Rockies – The Rockies aren't really giving current closer LaTroy Hawkins a ton of opportunities as far as saves go; however, it's worth noting that while Hawkins' seasonal numbers have been solid (3.00 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) he's had a rough go of it over the last three weeks. Hawkins locked down his last save on July 9 - yes, all you party people, that's almost a month - and since that time he has only made six appearances for the Rockies, while allowing four earned runs on eight hits. Since the Rockies can't seem to buy a win (2-8 over their last 10 games), it's a smart move on your part to try to trade for saves elsewhere assuming you've got a trade deadline approaching fast in your league. You don't have to go after Craig Kimbrel, but even landing a body that gets trotted out there a bit more than Hawkins is smart.

Recommended Pickup

Denard Span, OF, WAS – Span is not going to give you much pop, if any at all, but he's certainly worth adding to your roster if he's floating around out there. He may be unavailable in most leagues, but Span has been on fire since July 30 going 16-for-36 (.444 AVG), with six runs, five stolen bases and four RBI. He's worth checking your free agent pool in shallower leagues or going after in trade if you need the average, runs and speed.

Other Recent Recommendations :Colby Lewis, Kennys Vargas, Javier Baez, Jedd Gyorko and Stephen Vogt
