FanDuel MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers
Lance McCullers, $6,700
- The safe play tonight is probably spending $10,900 and taking Chris Sale who gets a favorable home matchup against the strikeout-prone Astros. However, if you're looking to save money and work some Coors Field bats into your lineup take a look at McCullers. The White Sox have struggled on offense all season and McCullers is coming off an 11-strikeout complete game. This appears to be a case where the price hasn't caught up to the production yet and McCullers just had a 10.33 fantasy point outing against these same White Sox.

Catcher
Russell Martin, $3,000
- There are several Toronto bats in play tonight given they're in the hitter-friendly confines of Rogers Center and were scoring runs all weekend. The Jays also get to face a southpaw and have been killing left-handed pitching this season. Martin is the one Blue Jay who is at a reasonable price and in a small sample this season (33 ABs) has over a 1.000 OPS against lefties. He's also hit much better at home than on the road making him an even more attractive option.

First Base
Ryan Howard, $3,000
- Howard moves from his home hitter-friendly park to Cincinnati tonight which is also a favorable hitter's environment. Howard is having a nice season with 11 home runs already after hitting just 23 all of last season. He's coming off back-to-back multi-hit games and has gone 6-for-18 against Mike Leake with three home runs.

Second Base
Kolten Wong, $3,600
- The second base position is very thin tonight and it's tough to recommend anyone under $3000 that you can expect good production from. Therefore it makes a lot of sense to pay up at the position and Wong is in a very favorable spot. He should be in his usual spot at the top of the Cardinal order and has a good matchup in Coors against David Hale. Wong should have no problem setting the table for the big bats behind him and should rack up the hits as well as runs.

Third Base
Trevor Plouffe, $2,600
- This is a bit of an odd recommendation given that Plouffe is in a slump, going 1-for-24 over his last six games. He was given the day off Sunday to clear his head and should be in his usual spot hitting cleanup tonight. A home matchup against lefty Jason Vargas could be exactly what Plouffe needs as he's hit southpaws (.861 OPS this season) better than righties and hit better home (.864 OPS) than on the road (.630 OPS).

Shortstop
Alcides Escobar, $2,300
- Escobar has started to heat up at the plate and has 3.5 fantasy points or more in three of his last five games. He's been hitting in the leadoff spot for the Royals and gets a good matchup against Phil Hughes and 4.96 ERA. There's also some history working in Escobar's favor here; he's gone 6-for-17 (.353) against Hughes with a home run.

Outfield
Randal Grichuk, $2,900
- As already mentioned, the Cardinal bats will be popular tonight and Grichuk might be the best value considering his price. In 82 plate appearances this season he has nine doubles and two home runs leading to a .824 OPS. Just check and make sure Mike Matheny isn't playing a strict platoon with Jon Jay and that Grichuk is in the starting lineup.

Chris Colabello, $2,900 - Colabello has turned into one of the better stories in baseball this season after a failed run with the Minnesota Twins. He has a 1.236 OPS vs. left-handed pitching this season (26 ABs) and oddly has two stolen bases against them as well. Again, a Toronto stack is worth looking into tonight against Brad Hand and Colabello brings into the game a 16-game hitting streak.

Andre Ethier, $2,700 - While Don Mattingly has tinkered with his lineup all season, Ethier has played pretty consistently against right-handed pitching. Ethier owns a .901 OPS against righties and has a .940 OPS playing home in Dodger Stadium. Tonight he gets a mediocre righty in Rubby De La Rosa and provided Mattingly uses him, Ethier is a good low-priced option.
