FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers

Chris Heston, $7,300 - There's good reason to go with Chris Sale ($11,500) who has double-digit strikeouts in eight straight games or even Carlos Carrasco ($9,700) who gets the swing-happy Astros at home. However, Heston offers a lot of salary cap relief and is in a good spot. He gets the Mets at home in pitcher-friendly AT&T Park and has exactly six strikeouts in each of his four home starts. Remember that Heston had a 11 punch outs against the Mets earlier this season when he no-hit them at Citi Field.

Catcher

Yasmani Grandal, $3,200 - Grandal isn't cheap today but is one of the better options at a thin position. He's been hot over the last week with games of 5.75, 10.25 and 8.75 fantasy points in three of his last five games. He boast a .922 OPS against right -handed pitching this season and gets a good home matchup against Sean O'Sullivan. On the season O'Sullivan has 7.67 road ERA, given up 10 home runs to right-handed hitters to go along with a .369 batting average against. Teammate Joc Pederson ($3300) is another strong play, especially considering his price tag.

First Base

Jose Abreu, $3,600 - Abreu is among the highest-priced first basemen and for good reason. He's home and gets to go up against Mark Buehrle who is well past his prime. Abreu's stats from a season and a half show he's a better hitter at home and against southpaws. He's been moved up to the two spot in the lineup and Buehrle's ERA is 1.27 points higher on the road than it is at home. Melky Cabrera will offer some protection hitting behind Abreu as he has a 1.467 OPS against Buehrle for his career.

Second Base

Cesar Hernandez, $3,000 - For some reason it seems like Hernandez is flying under the radar despite being a DFS stud over the last 10 games. Over that span he's gone 20-for-42 (.476) with four walks and eight stolen bases. Over 44 at-bats against lefties this season, Hernandez has a .967 OPS and gets a matchup against a below-average Eric Surkamp. Teammate Maikel Franco ($3300) is also in play for the Phillies here.

Third Base

Kyle Seager, $2,500 - This is probably the cheapest Seager has been on Fan Duel since the start of last season and tonight is a good spot to take advantage of it. Seager gets a good home matchup against Alfredo Simon who has struggled mightily as of late. Simon comes into the game with an 11.09 ERA and a 2.39 WHIP over his last three starts. Right-handed bats own a .842 OPS mark against him putting Seager in a good spot.

Shortstop

Jean Segura, $2,900 - Segura was given a day off Wednesday to clear his head and was in a 2-for-28 slump. The day off did him a lot of good and he's responded by going 10-for-16 over his last four games. The matchup is good playing in Milwaukee and going against rookie Matt Wisler. Give him a slight bump in value if he gets moved up to the top part of the lineup.

Outfield

Gerardo Parra, $3,100 - Parra is another Brewer who's been on fire since the calendar turned to July going 11-for-22 over his last five games with each one of those games being a multi-hit effort. He's hit home runs in two of his last three games and has been a fixture at the leadoff spot for Milwaukee.

Justin Upton, $2,800 - Most DFS players out of habit won't use any Padres given their matchup going against A.J. Burnett. However, this is an extremely cheap price to use Upton at and he's had past success against Burnett. Upton has gone 8-for-16 against A.J. with two of those hits being home runs.

Clint Robinson, $2,800 - Robinson is another pick who will be under-owned tonight given his lack of being a household name. He's been hitting in the middle of the lineup over the last week and has responded by raking at the plate. Robinson has fantasy games of 5.75, 6.25, 7.25 and 4.25 in four of his last five contests and gets rookie Anthony DeSclafani at home. Robinson should continue to hit in the cleanup spot and right behind Bryce Harper, one of the better spots in baseball.
