Closer Watch

Arizona – The Diamondbacks gave Brad Ziegler a day of rest during Tuesday’s doubleheader after he allowed a combined seven runs Sunday and Monday. As luck would have it, the club found itself in a save situation in both games against the Rockies. Daniel Hudson saved the first game and Josh Collmenter tossed a two inning save in the second game. Ziegler’s job should still be safe even though he raised his ERA by more than a run in his last two games.

Detroit – Bruce Rondon continues to hold the edge over Alex Wilson for closing duties. Rondon earned his third save while tossing a scoreless ninth Tuesday.

Toronto – Roberto Osuna blew just his second save by allowing the second home run of the night for Yan Gomes during Tuesday’s extra inning win. Osuna’s job is quite safe.

Recommended Pickup

Hector Olivera, 2B, ATL – Of all the Sept. 1 promotions, Olivera is the highest profile player. The 30-year-old has been limited to just 35 games while playing for six different teams between the Dodgers and the Braves thanks to elbow and hamstring injuries that have hampered him for the majority of the season. Olivera started at third base Tuesday and would not have much of a challenge wrestling mostly full time at-bats from Adonis Garcia. Olivera is slashed .272/.326/.376 in his 35 minor league games.

Other Recent Recommendations: Ben Paulsen, Jose Berrios, Stephen Piscotty, Eduardo Escobar, Mike Moustakas, Wilmer Flores
