FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers

Jaime Garcia, $8,700 - This might be a bit of an odd pick considering Garcia was just lit up by the Reds two weeks ago. However, that game was in Cincinnati and tonight's game will be in St. Louis. Garcia has been a beast at home, sporting a 1.84 ERA to go along with a 0.88 WHIP. Cincinnati has been in the middle of the pack as far as OPS against southpaws this season and that number has been worse over the second half with Todd Frazier struggling. Outside of the elite, high-priced options, Garcia is the best starting pitcher play.

Catcher

Victor Martinez, $2,600 - VMart may finally be breaking out of his season-long slump and has seven straight games of positive fantasy points on Fan Duel. He's hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games and gets a favorable matchup against Erik Johnson, a pitcher who's given up five home runs over his last three starts.

First Base

Pedro Alvarez, $3,000 - It's always wise to have some pieces in a Coors game field so Alvarez fits that bill. He's heated up recently with three home runs over his last seven games and gets the favorable lefty/righty split against Jonathan Gray. Gray has been solid over his last two starts but both have come on the road and he hasn't been allowed to go over six innings in any start this season.

Second Base

Logan Forsythe, $3,300 - Options at second base are incredibly thin for tonight's games so it's probably a smart move to pay up a little more for the position. If you believe in the "hot hand" theory, Forsythe is coming off a monster Sunday after going 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two walks and three RBI. He gets to face a lefty in Eduardo Rodriguez and has a lofty .992 OPS against southpaws this season. Forsythe should be in his regular cleanup spot as well, bearing well for his RBI opportunities. Teammates Evan Longoria ($3,000) and Brandon Guyer ($2,200) should be on your radar as well.

Third Base

Luis Valbuena, $2,200 - First, he's at the minimum price which allows you to pay up for a pitcher or any other position. He gets the favorable lefty/righty matchup against Jered Weaver and has hit better at home (14 of his 22 home runs have come in Houston) and with that pitcher split. Don't be surprised if he goes yard but make sure he's in the lineup.

Shortstop

Corey Seager, $3,100 - Shortstop is one of the thinner positions and while he hasn't been in the majors that long Seager has quickly made an impact. He had a 17 point outburst a week ago and has had three multi-hit games plus another game with a home run in his last six starts. He draws a good home matchup against Jhoulys Chacin who is only making his fourth start of the season.

Outfield

Tommy Pham, $3,000 - Pham has caught fire as of late posting a 1.654 OPS over the last week that includes four home runs, two triples and a stolen base. He gets the favorable hitter vs. pitcher splits against John Lamb and will look to continue his hot hitting. At 27 he's not a huge prospect but his .901 OPS at Triple-A this season suggests there is some upside here.

Adam Jones, $2,600 - It's not the greatest matchup going against Gio Gonzalez but Jones has historically hit left-handed pitching very well. His numbers on the season (27 home runs, 82 RBI) are right in line with his production over the last few seasons and he continues to hit in a good RBI spot. His price should probably be about $1,000 higher but a recent mini-slump and made him one of the better value plays of the day.

Andre Ethier, $2,200 - Ethier is at the minimum price tonight and squares off against a pitcher he's had some good history with. Over 42 plate appearances against Chacin, Ethier has 11 walks and four extra base hits. At this price he will allow you to spend your budget either on pitching or a few studs at the other positions.
