FanDuel MLB: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Carlos Rodon, CWS vs. KAN ($7,900): There's no shortage of aces to choose from Sunday, and there also appears to be a solid selection of second-tier options. Rodon gets the nod as a contrarian play, as Toronto's Marcus Stroman ($7,500) will likely be the popular bargain against the weak Twins lineup, but he's not inducing strikeouts to offer elite upside. Rodon has proven his ability to miss bats, owning a 9.29 K/9 rate this year. Walks (3.55 per nine innings) and home runs (1.58 per nine) remain a concern, but it's a good thing the Royals have the fourth-lowest home-run total (37) and the league's lowest walk rate at 6.1 percent.

CATCHER

Matt Wieters, BAL at LAA ($2,800): It's simply impossible to predict who will play on presumed short rest on get-away day, and no position is more volatile than catcher, so by all means, confirm Wieters is starting. Assuming he is, he'll face an aging Jeff Weaver, who is giving up nearly two home runs per nine innings and is allowing left handers to hit .329 with a .412 wOBA.

FIRST BASE

Adam Lind, SEA at CIN (2,400): Lind has not been good, hitting only .224 with three home runs and 12 RBI. However, he's facing a pitcher who has been worse in Alfredo Simon, who is allowing left-handed hitters to hit .400 with a .506 wOBP, including five home runs to the 66 lefties faced. To make it even more enticing, Lind has homered twice in his last five starts.

SECOND BASE

Johnny Giavotella, LAA vs. BAL ($3,200): It's seemingly a high price to pay at a lesser position, and for an unproven player, but Giavotella brings a nine-game hitting streak into a game against a struggling Ubaldo Jimenez, who has allowed 18 runs over his last four starts. Giavotella has scored seven times over his current streak.

THIRD BASE

Travis Shaw, BOS vs. CLE ($3,400): Shaw gives you an opportunity to get in cheaply on one of the league's best offenses. That he's hitting .322 with five home runs in 122 at bats against right-handed pitching only bolsters his case. Indians starter Danny Salazar has been particularly tough against lefties, however, allowing a wOBP of just .186 while striking out 34 in 25.2 innings, so Shaw won't come without risk.

SHORTSTOP

Manny Machado, BAL at LAA ($3,900): The price has fallen enough to make Machado a bit of a bargain, as five others check in higher at the position. He's homered twice in five days and three times in his last 10, and next faces a struggling Jeff Weaver, who allows almost two long balls per nine innings.

OUTFIELD

Nick Markakis, ATL at PHI ($3,100): The Phillies will trot out Jerad Eickhoff, who is allowing a .385 wOBA to left-handed hitters, highlighted by 15 extra base hits in 24.0 innings. Markakis is a career .292 hitter against righties, and he's driven in 19 runs in 35 games over the first two months of the season.

Carlos Beltran, NYY at OAK ($3,200): Beltran heads into Sunday having gone 7-of-14 in his first three games of the series. He'll face a pitcher in Jesse Hahn, who he's homered against in three at-bats, and Hahn has given up two long balls to 34 left handers he has faced this year.

Shawn O'Malley, SEA at CIN ($2,000): Low risk, low reward with this pick. O'Malley could get the nod at shortstop after Ketel Marte ($3,200) left Saturday's game due to injury. Assuming that happens, a matchup with Alfredo Simon and his 10.34 ERA is the right spot to bargain hunt and hope that O'Malley crosses the plate at least once.
