DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Michael Fulmer, DET at NYY ($9,000): Fulmer has been nothing short of outstanding this season, particularly over his last four starts, allowing one earned run over 28.1 innings while posting three consecutive scoreless starts (two on the road). While that pace is unsustainable long term, the rookie draws a Yankees squad that's only managed a .305 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season, and is ranked in the bottom 10 in multiple team offensive categories.

Joe Ross, WAS vs. PHI ($9,200): Ross gets his turn at the Phillies, who have a .286 wOBA against righties (third-worst in the majors) and 22.1 percent strikeout rate. The 23-year-old already dominated Philadelphia in their home park on May 31, limiting them to three hits and one earned run over seven innings, and there's little reason to think a similar outcome can't happen again. His offensive teammates also get a crack at Phillies starter Adam Morgan, furthering Ross' chances for a victory.

CATCHER

Sandy Leon, BOS at MIN ($2,000): Leon is Sunday's minimum-priced special, as there is usually a need for at least one low-cost option when you want to fit in some of the better bats on the slate. For what it's worth, Leon went 4-for-4 on Saturday versus the Twins and now draws rookie Pat Dean, who's given up a .371 wOBA and all four homers this season to right-handed hitters. Leon is a true punt play with minimal risk, and the Royals' Drew Butera ($2,100) presents as a similar option if he's in the lineup versus Carlos Rodon.

FIRST BASE

Miguel Cabrera, DET at NYY ($4,400) Cabrera has been quiet with the long ball recently but still sports more than enough upside for GPPs, as his three recent games with double-digits fantasy points attest. He boasts a .418 wOBA, .263 ISO, 38.9 percent hard contact rate and 11 of his 12 homers of the season against right-handed pitching and now draws faces Michael Pineda, who is yielding a .363 wOBA to right-handed hitters that rises to .417 at Yankee Stadium. He's also given up 10 of his 12 homers on the season in his home park, and seven of those have come to righty bats. Cabrera's .571/.667/.714 career line against Pineda over seven at-bats doesn't hurt either.

SECOND BASE

Logan Forsythe, TB vs. HOU ($4,200): Forsythe was having an outstanding season before getting plunked on the shoulder by Felix Hernandez in early May, and he picked right back up where he left off when he returned Friday. He'll have a chance to continue getting re-acclimated against Astros southpaw Dallas Keuchel, who has surrendered a .358 wOBA and eight of his 10 homers on the season to righty bats, with all eight coming on the road. Meanwhile, Forsythe has feasted on lefties this season, as he's posted a massive .452 wOBA, .300 ISO and 37.5 percent hard contact rate against them over 32 plate appearances.

THIRD BASE

Danny Valencia, OAK at CIN ($4,500): Valencia regularly punishes lefties, and he draws an exploitable one in Reds starter John Lamb, who has shown marked improvement over his last two starts but has still allowed a .342 wOBA and 38.4 percent hard contact rate against righties this season. Meanwhile, Valencia is sporting an absurd .562 wOBA, .474 ISO, 33.3 percent HR/FB rate and 51.5 percent hard contact rate versus southpaws.

SHORSTOP

Jhonny Peralta, STL at PIT ($4,000): Peralta has wasted no time in getting his season started after a spring training thumb injury essentially wiped out his first two months, hitting safely in four of his first five games. He has a solid matchup Sunday against Jon Niese, who he has slashed .357/.400/.429 against over 14 career at-bats, including a double and RBI. Niese has also surrendered a .362 wOBA and 10 of his 12 homers this season to right-handed hitters, while Peralta has a .342 wOBA and 34 percent hard contact rate against lefties over his career.

OUTFIELD

Lorenzo Cain, KC at CWS ($4,200): Cain sees southpaw Carlos Rodon, who he's hit .667 (4-for-6) against in his career. Rodon is also guilty of yielding a .360 wOBA and nine of his 10 homers on the season to right-handed bats, while Cain has decimated left-handed pitching to the tune of a .454 wOBA and .245 ISO this season. While he's been fairly quiet lately, Cain has shown three-homer upside this season, and has tallied fantasy point totals of 27 and 15 over the last 10 games.

Michael Saunders, TOR vs. BAL ($4,100): Saunders continues his breakout age-29 season, as he now has a five-game hitting streak and homers in back-to-back contests. He provides some cost-effective exposure to the Blue Jays in a favorable matchup against Ubaldo Jimenez, who's yielded a massive .428 wOBA and 36.8 percent hard contact rate to lefty hitters. Saunders has a .374 wOBA and 38.8 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitchers, and those figures rise to .391 and 43.9 percent when facing them at hitter-friendly Rogers Centre.

George Springer, HOU at TB ($4,800): Rays starter Matt Moore has had significant trouble with both the long ball and right-handed hitters this season, which makes Springer an appealing option. Moore has given up a .360 wOBA and 11 of his 14 homers this season to righty bats, with seven of those 11 coming at Tropicana Field. Springer has devoured left-handed pitching as well, amassing a .431 wOBA and .234 ISO against southpaws this season.
