DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

R.A. Dickey, TOR at OAK ($8,300): Dickey, like other knuckleballers of the past, has largely defied Father Time this season. He rattled off three straight quality starts before the All-Star break and has actually been more successful on the road than at home this year, generating a 5-3 record and 3.35 ERA away from Rogers Centre. Although he's yet to face them in 2016, Dickey also stymied the A's over the prior three seasons, going 3-1 with a 2.47 ERA over 43.2 innings, while allowing a .207 batting average. Oakland has also struggled against right-handers in general this year, posting only a .297 wOBA against that handedness in the season's first half.

Jeff Samardzija, SF at SD ($8,200): Samardzija has cooled off since a hot start, but he has positively owned the Padres this season, going 3-0 with 22 strikeouts and allowing a .197 batting average over 20.1 innings. The Padres have also struggled to do much of anything against right-handers all season, tallying a .286 wOBA that ranks them ahead of only the Braves, along with a third-highest 24.4 percent strikeout rate. Despite some struggles shortly before the All-Star break, Samardzija has averaged 25.5 fantasy points per game against the Padres this season.

CATCHER

Cameron Rupp, PHI vs. NYM ($4,300): Rupp finished off the first half of the season with 29 fantasy points against the Rockies, his fourth game with double-digit fantasy points over the last 10 before the All-Star break. He posted a .343 wOBA against right-handed pitching in the first half of the season, a figure that rose to .395 (accompanied by a .263 ISO) when facing that handedness at home. He's also tallied a whopping .491 wOBA this month, while Mets starter Logan Verrett has given up a .396 wOBA and seven of his nine homers to righty bats overall, and a .445 wOBA to them on the road.

FIRST BASE

Eric Hosmer, KC at DET ($3,600) Hosmer brings a career .417/.588/.500 line against Tigers starter Mike Pelfrey over 12 career at-bats, along with a .363 wOBA against right-handed pitching overall. Pelfrey has had an up-and-down season and actually pitched better than his 2-8 record indicates, but there's no disguising the fact that he's yielded a .365 wOBA to right-handed hitters that rises to .445 when facing them at Comerica Park.

SECOND BASE

Jose Altuve, HOU at SEA ($5,100): Altuve always brings a ton of upside for either cash games or tournaments, and he draws one of his favorite matchups Saturday in the form of Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma. Altuve has battered the veteran right-hander to the tune of a .438/.417/.688 line over 32 career at-bats, with five doubles, a homer and seven RBI. He's also been even deadlier away from hitter-friendly Minute Maid Park, posting a .467 wOBA and .214 ISO against right-handed pitching, along with a 35 percent hard contact rate. While Iwakuma has been hit harder by left-handed hitters overall this season, he's yielded a .345 wOBA and seven homers to righties this season at home, along with a 2.17 HR/9 rate.

THIRD BASE

Marwin Gonzalez, HOU at SEA ($2,800): Gonzalez makes for a nice two-man Astros stack with Altuve given his impossible-to-ignore track record against Iwakuma. As good as Altuve has been against the Mariners starter, Gonzalez has outperformed him, slashing .526/.526/.789 with a pair of doubles, a homer, and two RBI versus the veteran righty. Iwakuma has also given up a .371 wOBA at home to left-handed hitters, along with a bloated 42.3 percent hard contact rate.

SHORTSTOP

Corey Seager, LAD at ARI ($5,200): Seager is always in play for either cash or tournaments, particularly against right-handed pitching. D-backs starter Archie Bradley makes for a nice target, considering he's yielded a .386 wOBA to left-handed hitters, which rises to a whopping .440 (along with a 51.5 percent hard contact rate) when facing them at hitter-friendly Chase Field. Those numbers bode well for Seager's prospects, as he's tallied a .393 wOBA, .234 ISO and 37.9 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching this season, and he has hit 13 of his 17 homers off righty arms as well.

OUTFIELD

Ryan Braun, MIL at CIN ($4,800): Braun provides a good deal of upside in virtually any matchup, but particularly at Great American Ballpark against southpaw John Lamb. Braun has enjoyed plenty of success over his seven at-bats against the Reds starter, battering him for a single, double and two solo homers, and also drawing four free passes to boot. Although he's struggled to start July, he's still posting a .411 wOBA and .243 ISO against southpaws, and he started the three-game series against the Reds having slashed .333/.368/.722 at Great American Ballpark over 18 at-bats this season, with a pair of homers. Lamb has had his moments, but he has still surrendered a .370 wOBA and 10 of his 12 homers to right-handed hitters this season, with six of those coming at home.

Jay Bruce, CIN vs. MIL ($4,600): Bruce is a veteran power-hitter on the other side of the Reds-Brewers matchup, and he has hit eight hits in 19 at-bats, including three doubles, three homers and seven RBI against Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson. He also has a .364 wOBA against right-handed pitching, while Nelson has given up a matching .364 wOBA to lefty bats on the road this season, along with a 40.6 percent hard contact rate. Nelson also has a 5.49 road ERA this season, and a 5.11 ERA over 12.1 innings at Great American Ballpark.

Adam Jones, BAL at TAM ($3,100): Jones' price has dropped $1,400 from his last game before the All-Star break when he scored 13 fantasy points. An even stronger case for Jones is his track record against Rays starter Matt Moore, who he's gone 12-for-31 against in his career, with a double, three homers and eight RBI. He's also started to pick things up at the plate, raising his average 31 points since June 1. Meanwhile, Moore has given up a .336 wOBA and 15 of his 18 homers on the season to right-handed hitters, with nine of those coming at Tropicana Field.
