DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Wei-Yin Chen, MIA at PHI ($6,800): Chen can always be a bit of a wild card but is priced very reasonably and draws a Phillies squad that ranks dead last against southpaws with a .271 wOBA, while sporting the second-lowest ISO (.110) and third-highest strikeout rate (23.9 percent) against that handedness. They're also still in All-Star break mode at the plate to date in the second half, having managed an anemic .204 wOBA and massive 28.7 percent strikeout rate overall in their collective 178 plate appearances since play resumed last Friday.

Kyle Hendricks, CHC vs. NYM ($10,200): Hendricks has deservedly started to garner some of the same attention that had gone to his talented rotation-mates Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester throughout the season. Hendricks hasn't allowed a run in his last two starts and hasn't given up a run in the last 13.1 frames encompassing his last three appearances (including one relief outing right before the All-Star break). He exhibits solid control (1.02 WHIP), has a double-digit strikeout ceiling, and is 6-1 with a 1.50 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and .189 batting average against at home this season, while averaging 21.3 fantasy points. That includes a pair of outings at Wrigley within his last 10 games where he's tallied over 35 fantasy points, giving you considerable upside against a Mets squad that strikes out 22.5 percent of the time against right-handed pitching.

Catcher

Jonathan Lucroy, MIL at PIT ($3,900): I always like picking on Pirates starter Jeff Locke with at least one player, and Lucroy makes for a fine candidate in this regard. To begin with, he's hit the Pirates lefty hard over an extended sample size, posting a .385/.485/.538 line against him over 26 at-bats, with a homer and seven RBI. Locke also gives up a .362 wOBA to right-handed hitters, along with 11 of his 14 homers on the season. Lucroy hasn't thrived as much as usual against southpaws this season, but does own a .369 career wOBA against them on the road.

First Base

Edwin Encarnacion, TOR at ARI ($4,900): Encarnacion went deep yet again Tuesday, giving him 25 homers and a whopping 84 RBI on the season. With another tilt at Chase Field and a questionable lefty on the mound in Patrick Corbin, I'm ready to fire him up once again. The southpaw has given up a .349 wOBA and 14 of his 19 homers on the season to righty bats, while Encarnacion has a .406 wOBA, .333 ISO and 41.9 percent hard contact rate against left-handers.

Second Base

Roughned Odor, TEX at LAA ($4,200): Odor doesn't just reserve his haymakers for Jose Bautista, as he's blasted Angels starter Hector Santiago to the tune of a .478/.556/.739 line over 23 career at-bats with three doubles, a homer and five RBI. Santiago has admittedly been outstanding over his last three starts, but Odor is a left-handed hitter that isn't bothered by a southpaw matchup, tallying a .342 wOBA and a massive 52.2 percent hard contact rate against lefty arms on the road. He's swinging a hot bat as well, posting a .360 wOBA and .206 ISO to date in July.

Third Base

Evan Longoria, TB at COL ($5,100): Longoria brings particularly solid upside at Coors Field, and is having one of the best seasons of his career. He hit another massive homer Tuesday, already giving him 22 on the campaign and keeping him on pace to eclipse his career-best figure of 33. He could well take another step in that direction Wednesday given his matchup against lefty Jorge De La Rosa. Longoria has mashed southpaws once again this season and has done particularly well against them on the road, where he's managed a .384 wOBA and .294 ISO against that handedness. De La Rosa has surrendered a .381 wOBA and nine of his 12 homers on the season to righty bats, with five of those round-trippers coming at Coors.

Shortstop

J.J. Hardy, BAL at NYY ($3,000): Hardy provides a nice cost-effective alternative with some considerable BvP upside. He's punished Yankees starter Michael Pineda over 15 career at-bats, amassing seven hits including three homers. Pineda has also given up a .348 wOBA and 12 of his 18 homers to right-handed hitters this season, with the wOBA rising to .366 when facing them at Yankee Stadium. Hardy has a .326 wOBA against righties on the road and is swinging a hot bat so far in July, with a .306 average, .359 wOBA and a pair of homers.

Outfield

Ryan Braun, MIL at PIT ($4,200): We'll exploit Locke a bit more with another veteran slugger who has a favorable track record against him in Braun. Braun owns a .324 average over 34 career at-bats against Locke along with three doubles and a homer. He continues to crush southpaws overall, tallying a .422 wOBA and 35.5 percent hard contact rate against them along with five homers.

Rajai Davis, CLE at KC ($4,000): We close things out with some exposure from either side of the plate to home run-prone Royals starter Ian Kennedy. Davis sports a .452/.500/.692 line against Kennedy with a homer and three RBI, and owns a .333 wOBA against right-handers on the road this season. Kennedy is an equal opportunity facilitator of production, surrendering exactly half of the whopping 22 homers he's yielded this season to right-handed hitters.

Tyler Naquin, CLE at KC ($3,600): Naquin has been a revelation for a talented Indians squad this season in Michael Brantley's extended absence, and sports an impressive .414 wOBA and .283 ISO against right-handed pitching along with all 10 of his homers. He's been swinging a hot bat as well, as four of those bombs have come over just 44 July at-bats. Meanwhile, as mentioned in Davis' entry, Kennedy has been equally susceptible to either handedness of hitter when it comes to the long ball, giving up 11 homers to lefty bats.
