Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Anthony DeSclafani, CIN at STL ($38): DeSclafani has been outstanding this season, scoring 22 to 32.4 fantasy points in eight of his last nine starts. While the Cardinals are admittedly formidable against right-handed pitching DeSclafani dominated them in three meetings last season, going 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA and .209 average against. The Cardinals' bats pose a threat but given the quality of DeSclafani's work on the road this season, I'm rolling the dice. The Reds righty has generated a 9.15 K/9 and 24.2 percent strikeout rate in 39.1 road innings, giving him plenty of upside despite the tough matchup.

Scott Kazmir, LAD vs. PHI ($37): Any quality southpaw facing the Phillies is always worth a look, and Kazmir certainly qualifies. Philadelphia sports a .282 wOBA against lefties that's the worst in baseball and an anemic .108 ISO that is only better than the Braves' .104 figure. They've also struck out 22.8 percent of the time against left-handed pitching and Kazmir has demonstrated an upside north of 30 fantasy points on multiple occasions this season.

CATCHER

Stephen Vogt, OAK vs. BAL ($11): Vogt has a .326 wOBA and all nine of his homers this season against right-handed pitching. Pitcher Yovani Gallardo has a .365 wOBA against left-handed bats and a .367 wOBA overall on the road, where lefty hitters have also managed a 32.9 percent hard-contact rate against him.

FIRST BASE

Anthony Rizzo, CHC vs. LAA ($20): Rizzo owns an absurd .418 wOBA and .296 ISO against right-handed pitching this season along with a 39.1 percent hard contact rate. He's also hit safely in five straight heading into Wednesday and seven of his last eight. Angels starter Ricky Nolasco has also given up a .321 wOBA to left-handed hitters and a 40.8 percent hard contact rate to them on the road.

SECOND BASE

Ben Zobrist, CHC vs. LAA ($14): The switch-hitting Zobrist makes for an appealing mini-stack with Rizzo against Nolasco. Zobrist has a .362 wOBA and 34.1 percent hard-contact rate against right-handed pitching. Nolasco has been even more vulnerable to lefty bats, surrendering a .356 wOBA and 14 homers along with a 39 percent hard-contact rate to them on the road.

THIRD BASE

Manny Machado, BAL at OAK ($17): A's spot starter Ross Detwiler has given up a .485 wOBA to righty bats over a very small 11-batter sample in 2016 and a .355 wOBA and 46 of his 51 career homers to that handedness over a much larger sample of eight-plus major league seasons. Machado has a virtually unlimited upside (as demonstrated in last Sunday's three-homer barrage that netted 44 fantasy points) and has blasted southpaws to the tune of a .390 wOBA, .204 ISO and a 35.6 percent hard contact rate.

SHORTSTOP

Trea Turner, CLE at WAS ($12): Turner has slumped over the last three games (1-for-13), bringing his price notably down. However, the reality is he still offers the potential for double-digit fantasy points in any given game and has a .396 wOBA and .254 ISO against righty arms. Indians starter Josh Tomlin was blasted by the Yankees in his last start for seven earned runs over 4.2 innings and has given up a .338 wOBA and 14 homers to right-handed hitters this season.

OUTFIELD

Christian Yelich, MIA vs. SF ($19): Yelich pounds right-handed pitching, particularly at home, and hasn't fared badly in past encounters with Giants starter Jeff Samardzija either. The budding superstar owns a .409 wOBA, .216 ISO and 43.7 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching with the first two figures rising to .420 and .228 at Marlins Park. Samardzija has given up a .351 wOBA to lefty bats that rises to .383 when facing them away from the pitcher-friendly confines of AT&T Park.

Jackie Bradley, Jr. BOS vs. NYY ($17): Bradley has fallen off at the plate since his incredible run earlier in the season but still owns a .392 wOBA and .270 ISO against right-handed pitchers as well as a .409 wOBA at Fenway. Yankees starter Nathan Eovaldi has been touched up by lefty hitters for a .367 wOBA, 12 homers and a 36.6 percent hard-contact rate along with a 21.8 percent HR/FB rate. He also was blasted in his only other start at Fenway this season on May 1, giving up six earned runs on 10 hits and three walks over five innings with a .417 average against.

Melky Cabrera, CWS at KC ($15): The switch-hitting Cabrera provides you with some cost-effective exposure to Royals starter Ian Kennedy, who's given up a .321 wOBA and 14 homers to left-handed batters. He's been tagged particularly hard at Kauffmann Stadium, where lefty bats have made hard contact a whopping 46.4 percent of the time against him.
