DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Gio Gonzalez, WAS at ATL ($8,900): Gonzalez draws a favorable matchup against a Braves squad that has been mostly punch-less versus southpaws all season, generating a .284 wOBA and .103 ISO that both rank as the worst in the majors. The veteran lefty also breezed through six scoreless frames in his only other meeting against Atlanta this season, scoring 19.1 fantasy points.

Julio Urias, LAD at CIN ($5,600): Urias faces a Reds team has a mediocre .297 wOBA and bloated 23.1 percent strikeout rate against southpaws. There's some risk of an abbreviated outing if the Dodgers choose to keep his pitch count low, but the flip side is that you may get 20+ fantasy points at a significant savings.

CATCHER

Sandy Leon, BOS at DET ($2,900): The Red Sox backstop shows no signs of slowing down, tallying double-digit fantasy points in eight of his last 10 games. He also boasts a .407 wOBA and .229 ISO against right-handed pitching, along with a jaw-dropping 50 percent hard contact rate against that handedness away from Fenway Park. Tigers starter Justin Verlander still has plenty left in the tank, but he has given up 22 homers on the season, with nine coming from lefty bats at Comerica Park.

FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI at SD ($5,100) Considering that Padres starter Luis Perdomo gives up a .390 wOBA to right-handed hitters that rises to a jaw-dropping .527 when facing them at Petco Park, Goldschmidt becomes an especially appealing play. Perdomo has also allowed a .402 wOBA, 5.71 ERA and 34.5 percent hard contact rate over his last three starts. Meanwhile, Goldschmidt has a .375 wOBA and 36.6 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitchers, and he's also enjoying one of his best months of the season, amassing a .328 average and .411 wOBA over his last 80 plate appearances.

SECOND BASE

Jean Segura, ARI at SD ($5,300): Given what we know about Perdomo, Segura becomes a second high-upside D-backs target. The red-hot second baseman has a .367 wOBA against right-handed pitching, as well as a .380 average, .436 wOBA and .239 ISO over his last 16 games. He brings plenty of upside for both tournaments and cash games, and had double-digit fantasy points in five of his last six contests.

THIRD BASE

Manny Machado, BAL vs. HOU ($4,600): Machado faces off against Astros southpaw Dallas Keuchel, who's given up a whopping .374 wOBA and 13 homers to right-handed hitters on the road, along with a 22.8 HR/FB rate and 32.8 percent hard contact rate. Machado has a .388 wOBA and 143 wRC+ against southpaws at Camden Yards this season, and a .306 average, .387 wOBA, six homers and 43.3 percent hard contact rate over his last 17 games.

SHORTSTOP

Carlos Correa, HOU at BAL ($4,900): We'll jump right to the other side of the Astros-Orioles tilt for another slugger in Correa, who draws a solid matchup against Baltimore's Yovani Gallardo, who has given up a .352 wOBA to right-handed hitters that climbs to .365 when he faces them at Camden Yards. Correa happens to feast on right-handed pitching, which he's punished for a .369 wOBA, .216 ISO, 14 homers and a 35.2 percent hard contact rate. He's been even better against righty arms on the road, with a 36.8 percent hard contact rate and a whopping 25 percent HR/FB rate.

OUTFIELD

Ian Desmond, TEX at TB (4,000): Desmond has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games and boasts an impressive .389 wOBA and 31.7 percent hard contact rate against southpaws this season. While Rays starter lefty Drew Smyly has turned his season around over his last three starts, he's been vulnerable to the long ball, giving up 18 of his 24 homers on the season to right-handed hitters.

Tyler Naquin, CLE vs. TOR ($3,800): Despite plenty of upside, Naquin remains under $4K, making him a great tournament or cash game play. He brings an excellent track record against right-handed pitching, posting a .420 wOBA, .300 ISO and all 14 of his homers this season, along with an impressive 44 percent hard contact rate. Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman has yielded a .354 wOBA and 33.7 percent hard contact rate to left-handed hitters on the road, where he's also dropped three of his last four decisions.

Christian Yelich, MIA at PIT ($4,900): Yelich is the most potent lefty Marlins bat to deploy while trying to exploit Pirates starter Ryan Vogelsong's long history of trouble against hitters from that side of the plate. The veteran pitcher has been touched up for a .388 wOBA, 5.26 xFIP and a 33.9 percent hard contact rate by left-handed hitters, while Yelich has a .402 wOBA and .221 ISO, along with a 48.1 percent hard contact rate when facing them outside of Marlins Park. He's also swinging a hot bat this month, sporting a .315 average, .372 wOBA, .233 ISO and 43.4 percent hard contact rate over his last 17 games.
