DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Julio Teheran, ATL at PHI ($10,000): Teheran racked up 28.2 fantasy points against the Padres in his last start and now draws the next-worst team in the majors against right-handed pitching in the Phillies, who have tallied a .297 wOBA and 22.1 percent strikeout rate against righties. Philadelphia also sports the majors' worst home wOBA (.280), which they complement with a 23.6 strikeout rate. Teheran has shown a ceiling north of 30 fantasy points on multiple occasions this season and also has the added benefit of opposing Phillies rookie Jake Thompson, who has mostly struggled this season.

Jon Gray, ARI at COL ($7,100): Given the fact that the game is at Coors Field, Gray shapes up as a tournament-only play, but one that carries some solid upside. He's averaged 17 fantasy points per game at home this season, while scoring between 22.7 and 28.1 fantasy points in six of his last 10 starts. That includes his last two trips to the mound, when he tallied 25.3 and 28.1 fantasy points, respectively. The D-Backs have also been rather ordinary against right-handed pitching, striking out at a robust 22.5 percent clip while generating a .312 wOBA.

CATCHER

Sandy Leon, BOS at OAK ($3,100): Leon continues to be significantly underpriced despite his extended stretch of torrid hitting, making him an outstanding value play. He has back-to-back double-digit fantasy-point games on the strength of consecutive multi-hit efforts. He has a .388 wOBA and 42.1 percent hard contact rate against right-handers on the road as well, while A's starter Kendall Graveman yields a .332 wOBA and 32.6 percent hard contact rate to lefty bats. While the O.co Coliseum is certainly much friendlier to pitchers, Leon has been far from a Fenway mirage, boasting a .427 wOBA and .247 ISO on the road that are better than his respective figures at home.

FIRST BASE

Pedro Alvarez, BAL vs. NYY ($3,900) It's always prudent to consider throwing out some left-handed power bats against Yankees starter Michael Pineda, who's surrendered a .384 wOBA and 35.8 percent hard contact rate to lefty hitters away from Yankee Stadium. Those figures dovetail nicely with Alvarez's strengths, considering he has a .358 wOBA and .274 ISO against right-handed pitching, along with a 38 percent hard contact rate and whopping 30.8 percent HR/FB rate when facing that handedness at Camden Yards.

SECOND BASE

Brian Dozier, MIN vs. CWS ($5,000): Dozier is near the top of the pricing spectrum at second base Sunday but is well worth it, considering his red-hot bat and his matchup against White Sox starter Anthony Ranaudo. Dozier has scored double-digit fantasy points in seven of his last 11 games, with five homers over that span. Meanwhile, Ranaudo has yielded a .403 wOBA to righty hitters that shoots up to .442 when facing them away from U.S. Cellular Field. He's also given up a massive 4.32 HR/9 to right-handed bats on the road, along with a 6.93 xFIP and 28.6 percent HR/FB rate. Dozier boasts a .355 wOBA and .246 ISO against right-handed pitching and has blasted 23 of his 33 round-trippers against that handedness.

THIRD BASE

Trevor Plouffe, MIN vs. CWS ($3,800): Following much of the same logic that makes Dozier an appealing play, I'm targeting Plouffe as an underpriced tournament option against Ranaudo, whose struggles against right-handed hitting were touched on before. Plouffe has a solid 36.1 percent hard contact rate against righties at Target Field, along with a .310 wOBA.

SHORTSTOP

Asdrubal Cabrera, WAS at NYM ($3,300): The switch-hitting Cabrera is wielding a red-hot bat, with double-digit fantasy points in six of his last 11 games, yet his price comes nowhere near reflecting that caliber of production. He'd also blasted homers in three of the four games prior to Saturday, and he has a .341 wOBA and .244 ISO against right-handed pitching at home, along with a 36.6 percent hard contact rate. Nationals rookie Reynaldo Lopez has been tough against lefty hitters over a limited sample, but Cabrera's price makes him an excellent bargain for either cash or GPPs.

OUTFIELD

Carlos Gonzalez, COL vs. ARI ($5,000): Opposing starter Archie Bradley has been trampled by left-handed hitters this season, and the fact that Coors Field serves as a backdrop makes the target on his back that much bigger. The right-hander has given up a .408 wOBA to lefty bats, both overall and on the road, along with 10 of his 16 homers on the season. It doesn't get any prettier when looking at his other relevant metrics, with left-handed hitters tagging him for a 38.6 percent hard contact rate and 22.2 percent HR/FB rate. Those weaknesses fit the strengths of Gonzalez perfectly, as he's mashed righty pitching to the tune of a .441 wOBA, .315 ISO, 21.3 percent HR/FB rate and 36.2 percent hard contact rate at Coors Field.

David Dahl, COL vs. ARI ($4,900): We'll waste no time getting to our second Rockies slugger, with Dahl's numbers against right-handed pitching at Coors looking every bit as good as Gonzalez's. Dahl has tallied a .365 batting average, .432 wOBA and .250 ISO over 56 plate appearances against righty arms at home, along with a whopping 43.9 percent hard contact rate in what has been a spectacular rookie season to date.

Melky Cabrera, CWS at MIN ($4,500): Cabrera is a solid bat with which to target Twins starter Andrew Albers, who's given up a whopping .548 wOBA to righty bats at home over a 22-batter sample. He's also been highly vulnerable to right-handed hitters in general with respect to the long ball, with his HR/9 figure sitting at an absurd 3.86. The switch-hitting Cabrera has a whopping .378 wOBA and .200 ISO against lefties on the road, along with a 34 percent hard contact rate. He's also pounded Twins pitching in the current series, going 6-for-15 with a double, a homer and five RBI over the first three games.
