FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Drew Pomeranz, BOS at SD ($47): Pomeranz takes aim at his former team, which sports a 24.1 percent strikeout rate and .304 wOBA at home and strikes out at a 25.1 percent clip versus southpaws. Pomeranz has started to hit his stride in the American League, scoring 33 to 47 fantasy points in three of his last four starts. He naturally has intimate knowledge of the spacious Petco Park as well, furthering his appeal.

CATCHER

Sandy Leon, BOS at SDP ($2,800): Leon sits at his usual bargain price despite his continued success at the plate. He has double-digit fantasy points in two of his last three games and a .380 wOBA on the road against right-handed pitching. He also sports a 45.5 percent hard-contact rate away from Fenway against righties, while Padres starter Edwin Jackson has given up a .361 wOBA to lefty bats and a 5.98 xFIP.

FIRST BASE

Jose Abreu, CWS vs. DET ($3,200) Abreu shapes up an appealing tournament option given his perceived tough matchup against Justin Verlander, as well as his considerable upside. Verlander has given up a .322 wOBA and 31 percent hard-contact rate to right-handed bats, while Abreu owns a .377 wOBA and .203 ISO against righty arms at home. He has also hit 15 of his 22 homers on the season off right-handers.

SECOND BASE

Dustin Pedroia, BOS at SD ($3,700) : Pedroia wields one of the hottest bats in the majors with four straight multi-hit games and an 11-game hitting streak that includes a pair four-hit efforts. Padres starter Edwin Jackson shapes up as an inviting target, as he's yielded a .371 wOBA, 5.61 xFIP and 35 percent hard-contact rate to right-handed hitters. Pedroia also boasts a .368 wOBA against right-handed pitching and a 35.4 percent hard-contact rate against righties outside Fenway.

THIRD BASE

Adonis Garcia, ATL at WAS ($2,500): Garcia is another player with some pop in his bat who's up against an ace pitcher Monday, but his near-minimum price renders him a viable tournament play. The numbers for Nationals starter Max Scherzer against right-handed hitters are downright scary, but Garcia has double-digit fantasy points in five of his last six games, including a 47.1-fantasy point outing on Saturday versus the Phillies. He's also smacked 12 of his 13 homers this season against righties and owns a .482 wOBA and .353 ISO over the first four games of September.

SHORTSTOP

Marcus Semien, OAK vs. LAA ($3,000): Semien's bat carries some considerable pop and Angels starter Jered Weaver serves up round-trippers with regularity, making the A's shortstop a bargain-priced tournament play Monday. Weaver has now given up 32 homers on the season, with 18 coming at the hands of right-handed hitters. He yields a .411 wOBA and nine homers to righty bats on the road as well, along with a 2.17 HR/9, 6.22 xFIP and 42.5 percent hard-contact rate.

OUTFIELD

Melky Cabrera, CWS vs. DET ($3,000): Cabrera has a .352 wOBA against righty arms at home and is coming off four straight games with double-digit fantasy points, including three multi-hit efforts over that span. Tigers starter Justin Verlander is tough on lefties, but has been a more vulnerable pitcher on the road this season.

Khris Davis, OAK vs. LAA ($3,300): Davis represents another upside option against Jered Weaver, whose low-80s fastball the slugging outfielder should have no trouble catching up with. Davis owns a .336 wOBA and .305 ISO against right-handed pitching at home, along with a 23.6 percent HR/FB rate and 39.8 percent hard-contact rate. His batted-ball profile dovetails nicely with Weaver as well, as Davis has a 49.1 percent flyball rate at home, while Weaver has a 51.5 percent flyball rate against right-handed hitters.

Yasiel Puig, LAD vs. ARI ($2,600): Puig has hits in his first two games since returning from his minor league exile, after tearing the cover off the ball at Triple-A Oklahoma City. He provided a whopping 38.1 fantasy points against the Padres, and checks in to Monday's matchup against Zach Greinke with a .319 wOBA against right-handed pitching. The D-backs starter is no picnic to face, he has given up a .315 wOBA to right-handed hitters and was touched up for a .363 wOBA over five August starts.
