DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Gio Gonzalez, WAS vs. PHI ($8,600): The Phillies come in with a .280 wOBA and .109 ISO against left-handed pitching, which are both the worst marks in the majors. Gonzalez has averaged 21.8 fantasy points per game over three starts against the Phillies this season, including 21.7 on Aug. 31. Although he struggled against an improved Braves squad in his last start, Gonzalez has shown he knows his way around a Philadelphia lineup that doesn't strike fear into anyone.

James Paxton, SEA at OAK ($7,700): Paxton hasn't been the steadiest of performers this season, but he draws an A's offense that's generated a paltry .297 wOBA against southpaws that is the American League's worst. They also have AL's lowest home wOBA (.287), a figure that ranks as the second-lowest in the majors.

CATCHER

Wilson Ramos, WAS vs. PHI ($3,800): Ramos is a fine starting block for a Nationals right-handed stack against Phillies starter Adam Morgan, who's surrendered a .439 wOBA, 10 homers, a 2.73 HR/9 and a 39.5 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters on the road. Ramos counters with a .424 wOBA, .333 ISO, 166 wRC+ and 57.1 percent HR/FB rate at home against lefties. Morgan notably gives up a 23.3 percent HR/FB rate to right-handed hitters away from Citizens Bank Park, furthering Ramos' appeal.

FIRST BASE

Mitch Moreland, TEX AT LAA ($3,600): Moreland is an appealing left-handed bat against Angels starter Jered Weaver, who's yielded a .378 wOBA to lefty hitters that rises to .409 when facing them at Angels Stadium. Moreland has tagged righties for a .334 wOBA and 17 of his 22 homers on the season, along with a 34.6 percent hard contact rate. He's been swinging a hot bat in his first eight games of September as well, with a .320 batting average and .379 wOBA over that span.

SECOND BASE

Trea Turner, WAS vs. PHI ($5,400): Turner represents another effective weapon to deploy against Morgan, whose significant problems against right-handed hitters away Citizens Bank Park were detailed earlier. He comes in with a six-game hitting streak and double-digit fantasy points in six of his last 10. Turner's .416 wOBA and massive 52.4 percent hard contact rate against southpaws at home only serve to strengthen his case.

THIRD BASE

Adrian Beltre, TEX at LAA ($4,500): With a mid-80s fastball, Jered Weaver shapes up as a tempting target for Beltre, who has a .344 wOBA and 18 homers against righties, while making hard contact at a 34.1 percent clip against them on the road. He's hit safely in six of his last seven games as well, and boasts a .355 batting average, .430 wOBA and a pair of homers over that span. Weaver has been hopeless against righties this season, giving up a .374 wOBA, 19 homers, 5.70 xFIP and 40.6 percent hard contact rate.

SHORTSTOP

Corey Seager, LAD at MIA ($5,500): Seager looks like a nightmarish matchup for Marlins starter Jose Urena, who's given up a .366 wOBA to left-handed hitters that rises to .395 when facing them at Marlins Park. Five of the seven homers he's given up on the season have also come off lefty bats, which have made hard contact at a 38.2 percent clip against him at home. Those numbers look particularly glaring when factoring in Seager, who has a .340 batting average, 19 homers, .406 wOBA and .228 ISO against righties, along with a 21.1 percent HR/FB rate and 39.8 percent hard contact rate.

OUTFIELD

Ian Desmond, TEX at LAA ($4,300): Desmond is poised to offer some value against Jered Weaver, whose struggles against right-handed hitters were detailed earlier. Desmond has smacked righties around for 16 of his 22 homers and a .340 wOBA, and he has posted a 23.8 percent HR/FB rate and 33.6 percent hard contact rate against that handedness on the road.

Joc Pederson, LAD at MIA ($4,100): Marlins starter Jose Urena's problems against left-handed hitters were detailed earlier, making Pederson another high-upside tournament play considering his potent bat. Pederson has launched 19 of his 20 homers on the season against righty arms, and he boasts a .375 wOBA, .260 ISO and 40.6 percent hard contact rate against that handedness. Urena also gives up a much higher fly ball rate to lefty bats, while Pederson has a 41.3 percent fly ball rate against righties, along with a 21.1 percent HR/FB rate.

Jayson Werth, WAS vs. PHI ($4,300): Phillies starter Adam Morgan has been solid in his last two trips to the mound, but he has still surrendered a .439 wOBA, 10 homers, a 2.73 HR/9 and a 39.5 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters on the road. Meanwhile, Werth has a .451 wOBA, .300 ISO and a 46.5 percent hard contact rate, along with 12 homers, against left-handed pitchers. Furthermore, Werth's 48.6 percent fly ball rate against left-handed pitching at Nationals Park should play very well against Morgan's 23.3 percent HR/FB rate versus right-handed hitters on the road.
