FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Eduardo Rodriguez, BOS vs. NYY ($7,100): Due to the lighter slate of games, we don't have a wide variety of pitching options, which leaves Rodriguez as the only legitimate value play. After dealing with injury, and a rough start to his season, Rogridguez has completely turned it around - 2.76 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 21.2 percent K- rate in last 10 starts - and faces a Yankees offense that's sporting a pathetic .303 wOBA against left-handed pitchers.

CATCHER

Yasmani Grandal, LAD at ARI ($2,800): Grandal has quietly been terrific lately - .407 wOBA, and .335 ISO since July 1 - yet is still priced incredibly cheap, especially at a weak position. Grandal has been especially potent against right-handed pitching this season (.346 wOBA, .274 ISO) and faces Archie Bradley and his .393 wOBA allowed to left-handed sticks. Not to mention, the game is in the hitter-friendly confines of Chase Field.

FIRST BASE

Adrian Gonzalez, LAD at ARI ($3,200): Let's stay in Arizona as starting left-handed hitters against Bradley is clearly a strong play. For his part, Gonzalez has owned righties this season (.304 batting average, .361 wOBA, .185 ISO), has hit well recently (.355 wOBA, .224 ISO since Aug. 1) and is reasonably priced, especially compared to the other options at first base.

SECOND BASE

Nick Franklin, TB at BAL ($2,800): Franklin continues to be a beast against right-handed pitching (.308 batting average, .385 wOBA, .222 ISO), yet also remains shockingly low priced. Add in a matchup with Yovani Gallardo (.360 wOBA allowed to left-handed bats) plus a dearth of quality options (outside of the high-priced options), and Franklin leaps off the page as the clear value at second base.

THIRD BASE

Ryon Healy, OAK at KC ($3,200): Healy has been on a tear - .369 batting average, .412 wOBA, .194 ISO in the last 30 days - and yet is still priced affordably, particularly considering the lighter slate. Healy has been dangerous against right-handed pitchers (.301 batting average, .353 wOBA) and faces Edinson Volquez and his 5.09 ERA.

SHORTSTOP

Troy Tulowitzki, TOR at LAA ($3,000): Tulo has actually put together a nice season, and has really seemed to turn it on over the second half of the season - .300 batting average, .359 wOBA, .182 ISO since July 1. He faces some guy named Daniel Wright and his 7.50 ERA. For the price, you won't find as much upside as Tulo at any other position.

OUTFIELD

Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE at CWS ($3,000): Chis has been tremendous against right-handed pitching this season - .308 batting average, .347 wOBA, .163 ISO) and faces James Shields (.376 wOBA allowed to left-handed bats) in the hitter's haven known as The Cell. Chisenhall is a steal.

Keon Broxton, MIL at CHC ($2,800): Broxton's been terrific lately, sporting a .378 wOBA, .208 ISO since Aug. 1. The 26-year-old has been notably potent against left-handed pitching (.387 wOBA, .188 ISO); and faces the Mike Montgomery, who is anything but intimidating, making Broxton a perfect high-ceiling play for a relatively moderate investment.

Jarrod Dyson, KC at OAK ($2,700): This is a boom-or-bust play as much of Dyson's value comes from his speed. But, the 32-year-old has been hot lately - .356 batting average, .372 wOBA in last 10 games - faces Daniel Mengden and his 6.39 ERA, and is priced surprisingly low for someone with his stolen-base upside.
