FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Jeremy Hellickson, PHI vs. MIA ($7,300): Hellickson has been terrific at home against Miami this season, allowing just three runs in 14 innings while striking out 12 over two starts. He's ready for another solid outing after registering a quality start in nine of his last 13 appearances at Citizens Bank Park, and should be able to add a few points via the strikeout given his solid 8.54 K/9 at home. It would be foolish to pass the right-hander up at just $7,300 against a reeling Marlins team that has dropped 13 of its last 19.

CATCHER

Evan Gattis, HOU at SEA ($3,000): Safeco Field sees the seventh-highest home run rate at 1.18 times the league average, which plays right into Gattis' hands against Mariners starter James Paxton. The power-hitting catcher has launched 10 long balls in just 158 plate appearances against lefties, while the Mariners southpaw has hit the skids with 13 earned runs allowed in 20.1 innings over his last four starts. Look for Gattis to take advantage of this favorable matchup in a big way due to his elite power.

FIRST BASE

Adrian Gonzalez, LOS at ARI ($3,400): The entire heart of the Dodgers order is enticing against subpar Arizona righty Shelby Miller, but Gonzalez especially so given his favorable history facing Miller (5-for-10 with one home run). The veteran left-handed slugger has a .358 wOBA in this split, and that number is likely to be on the rise in this excellent matchup at hitter-friendly Chase Field. Gonzalez profiles comparably to the top-tier first basemen at a much more affordable price.

SECOND BASE

Matt Carpenter, STL at SFG ($3,500): Carpenter has hit a bit of a rough patch lately, but has an excellent chance to reverse his fortunes against struggling right-hander Jeff Samardzija. Samardzija has lasted just 17 innings while allowing nine earned runs during his current three-game winless stretch, plus he was rocked for six runs on four homers over five innings in his last meeting with the Cardinals. St. Louis' lineup is primed for a big performance here, and their leadoff man's .390 wOBA against righties suggests he'll play a prominent role in their success.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, ARI at LOS ($3,500): Lamb loves to face right-handers at home, as indicated by his .407 wOBA. Overall, 76 of his 85 extra-base hits this season have come in that split, and that total should be on the rise against unimpressive Dodgers rookie Brock Stewart. This game will likely have no shortage of scoring, so filling out your lineup with as many of its participants as possible is a solid strategy.

SHORTSTOP

Brad Miller, TAM at BAL ($3,300): Miller is a bargain at $3,300, especially against Orioles righty Chris Tillman. He has launched 25 of his 28 long balls in this split, and defies positional expectations for shortstops with his power and lineup placement as Tampa Bay's cleanup hitter. With Tillman having given up 20 earned runs in 31.2 innings for a 5.68 ERA over his last six starts, Miller is primed for another successful outing against the struggling righty.

OUTFIELD

Carlos Gonzalez, COL vs. SDP ($4,400): Gonzalez is worth his hefty price at Coors Field against Edwin Jackson given his incredible numbers against much tougher competition. CarGo has a .424 wOBA at home to go with a .329/.380/.635 line. Between Jackson's 4.26 BB/9 and 5.32 ERA, he's almost certain to both put runners on in front of Gonzalez and allow one of baseball's best hitters to do significant damage in the resulting high-leverage situations.

Odubel Herrera, PHI vs. MIA ($3,000): Herrera will be looking to build on a successful 3-for-6 mark against Marlins starter Jose Urena, and his five hits in the last three games heading into the weekend suggest the outfielder is in the right form to expand his success. The speedy outfielder has the potential to enhance his production with steals, and brings a decent .352 wOBA to the table against righties. With Urena giving up an .056 higher wOBA to lefties than righties, this is the time to invest in Herrera at the reasonable price of $3,000.

Josh Reddick, LOS at ARI ($2,900): As was mentioned with teammate Adrian Gonzalez, it's wise to stack Dodgers hitters against Miller. Miller's 7.12 ERA is due to an astronomical .416 wOBA allowed to left-handed batters, and Reddick is better than most given his solid .363 wOBA against right-handers. Plus, he's 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI against this particular righty.
