FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Blake Snell, TB vs. KC ($6,900): I'll start by saying the top pick on the board is Jacob deGrom, who has a great matchup against the Giants, but if you are looking for a cheaper option with some nice upside, then Snell is your guy. Snell is priced where he's at primarily because of his limitations (innings and strikeouts), but he'll be facing the worst team in baseball against lefties. The Royals wOBA against lefties this season is .232. The Royals' strikeout rate is at 23% against lefties, so there's some opportunity for Snell to rack up some points. Snell is coming off an outing where he posted nine strikeouts, which would be a good target against the Royals.

CATCHER

Derek Norris, TB vs. KC ($2,400): If you are like me, you'll often wait until the end of of your selection process before finding a catcher. The reason is that catchers are often cheaper than other position players and more often than not, you're stuck with just over $2000 remaining. Norris looks like a good way to fill out the lineup as his matchup against Nathan Karns is appealing. Karns has been much better at home than on the road this season, a trend that was true last year as well, and if he can't figure out how to pitch on the road, he'll be in for another rough outing against the Rays. Norris has been on lately with nine or more fantasy points in four of his past five games.

FIRST BASE

Ryan Zimmerman, WAS at BAL ($4,600):Kevin Gausman takes the hill for the Orioles against the Nationals and he'll be looking to get back on track. Gausman managed to give up one run in one inning before being ejected in his last start and surrendered five or more in the three games prior, so entering this game, there's no real sign that he's about to turn it around. Zimmerman has been on a roll the past couple weeks and looks to be the one to benefit the most from this matchup as he leads the league in wOBA against righties (.535).

SECOND BASE

Starlin Castro, NYY at CIN ($3,900): In two starts against the Pirates, Red starter Rookie Davis has allowed zero runs, but in two starts versus everyone else, he gave up 11. That doesn't bode well for Davis as he faces one of the best lineups in baseball. Castro is one of many Yankees in a groove right now and a lot of his production has come against righties (.428 wOBA, third on the team).

SHORTSTOP

Corey Seager, LAD vs. PIT ($3,800): Seager's hit a bit of a rough patch lately, but a return home and a matchup against a young right-hander could be exactly what he needs to get back on track. Even with his recent slump, Seager is still averaging 11.5 fantasy points per game and his wOBA against righties is .405, which puts him among the league's best. Seager has been better on the road this season, but last year he was clearly a better hitter at home, so I would expect a correction in that department soon.

THIRD BASE

Justin Turner, LAD vs. PIT ($3,700): Turner has been in a groove for nearly the entire season. He enters the matchup against the Pirates with a .377 average, and though the power numbers aren't there yet, he's still averaging 10.6 fantasy points per game. He'll face righty Trevor Williams, who enters with a 5.40 ERA. Turner has been very good against righties this season with a .452 wOBA, which is good for 16th in all of baseball.

OUTFIELD

Aaron Hicks, NYY at CIN ($3,200): Hicks is off to a great start this season, averaging 13.9 fantasy points per game. With all the hype surrounding Aaron Judge, it's a bit surprising to learn that Hicks leads the Yankees in wOBA against righties this season at .528. Hicks doesn't have a track record of success in the majors, but as long as he's in a groove, he's safe to deploy at this price.

Hunter Renfroe, SD vs. TEX ($2,700): Renfroe has a nice matchup against Nick Martinez, who has historically struggled with lefties, but this season, he's having trouble with righties as well. Martinez enters with a 4.91 ERA and could provide some hope to a beleaguered Padres lineup. Renfroe leads the Padres in wOBA against righties this season and should be able to take advantage of a vulnerable Martinez.

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. CHC ($4,300):Jake Arrieta takes the hill for the Cubs, and while I wouldn't recommend stacking against him, I certainly wouldn't avoid him anymore. With that in mind, Blackmon looks like a great pick. Blackmon has a wOBA of .408 against righties this season, but more importantly, he's on a tear lately. Blackmon has posted games of 20-plus points in three of his past five and has multiple hits in four of his past six. His price isn't as inflated as I would expect for Coors Field, so if you can find room, he's a great selection.
