FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Julio Urias, LAD vs PIT ($7,300): On paper Carlos Carrasco has a fantastic matchup against the Blue Jays, who have the fourth worst wOBA against right-handed pitching and the ninth worst strikeout rate. However, looking at a more economical option brings Urias into the mix at home against the Pirates. The Pirates have been mediocre on the road against lefties this season with a .300 wOBA and a strikeout rate over 20 percent. Urias' numbers in the minors have been off the charts and sooner rather than later that will translate over in the big leagues.

Catcher

Brian McCann, HOU vs ATL ($3,300): He's had a great run but it appears Bartolo Colon may be heading to the twilight of his career. He still relies heavily on his fastball and has given up a .349 wOBA to left-handed hitters after having a .374 mark on the road last season. McCann's new park and team have worked for him so far as he owns a .363 wOBA against righties this season.

First Base

Tommy Joseph, PHI vs SEA ($2,700): Joseph has gotten off to a slow start this season but it's hard to ignore his numbers from 2016. Last season he crushed left-handed pitching to the tune of a .383 wOBA and that mark went up to .404 at home. Ariel Miranda is a rookie making a road start and in a small sample has given up a .373 wOBA to right-handed batters on the road.

Second Base

Jonathan Villar, MIL vs BOS ($3,100): Villar proved to be a southpaw killer last season with a .393 wOBA against them. He's also a threat on the base paths, swiping 62 bases last season to add to his fantasy value. Tonight he'll get Drew Pomeranz, who has his worst splits on the road against right-handed hitters.

Shortstop

Alcides Escobar, KC at TB ($2,100): Escobar is a great punt play tonight given that he's hitting leadoff and has a decent matchup against Matt Andriese. In the leadoff spot last night Escobar finished with 12.9 fantasy points, returning a nice value given the price. In a limited sample this season Andriese has given up a .363 wOBA to right-handed hitters.

Third Base

Todd Frazier, CHW vs MIN ($3,500): As a team the White Sox are hitting left-handed pitching well and Frazier has always been known as a lefty-killer. Frazier has a career .354 wOBA against southpaws and will face off against Hector Santiago tonight. Santiago gave up a .333 wOBA last season to right-handed hitters and will see plenty of that handedness tonight.

Outfield

Matt Joyce, OAK vs LAA ($2,800): Joyce has always been a solid hitter against right-handed pitching, having a career .346 wOBA against that handedness. Tonight he gets Alex Meyer, a pitcher who in his brief career has given up a .415 wOBA to left-handed hitters. While it's not the greatest ballpark, this is a good matchup for Joyce given the opposing pitcher.

Robbie Grossman, MIN at CHI ($3,000): Grossman has assumed the leadoff role for the Twins and has averaged 9.2 fantasy points per game this season. He has a .355 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season and has a great matchup tonight against Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey gave up a whopping .394 wOBA last season to left-handed hitters and there's no reason to believe he'll improve on that this season.

Corey Dickerson, TB vs KC ($3,100): Dickerson has been a staple in the leadoff spot for the Rays and has an excellent matchup against Chris Young tonight. Dickerson has a .344 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season and Young was killed by left-handed hitters last season. Young gave up a .476 wOBA to lefties last season and that number rose to .511 on the road. Teammates Logan Morrison ($2,900) and Brad Miller ($2,600) are in play here too.
