FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Martin Perez, TEX vs SD ($7,100) – Perez has been mediocre this season but gets a prime matchup at home tonight. He has at least 22 fantasy points in five of his seven starts and the Padres have struggled against southpaws this season. They've struck out at 22.8% (ninth highest) against lefties and their .263 wOBA against them is the third lowest mark in baseball. Using a mid-priced option will allow extra exposure to the game at Coors Field.

Catcher

Devin Mesoraco, CIN at SF ($2,300) – Mesoraco is finally back to being fully healthy and has been very successful against left-handed pitching. For his career, his best splits are on the road against lefties where his wOBA is .360. Ty Blach is just a rookie and has allowed a .359 wOBA to right-handed batters.

First Base

Chris Davis, BAL at WAS ($3,300)A.J. Cole appears to be a good matchup for Davis, who'll have the lefty vs. righty splits working in his favor. Davis has multi-homer potential every night and has always raked against right-handed pitching. His career wOBA against righties is .368 and he has good RBI opportunities in the middle of the Orioles' lineup.

Second Base

DJ LeMahieu, COL vs LAD ($3,400) – LeMahieu is close to being a must-play at home against left-handed pitching. LeMahieu's best splits mark are at home against lefties where his career mark sits at a .373 wOBA. Hyun Jin-Ryu is a soft-tossing lefty who makes for a good matchup considering the environment.

Shortstop

Brandon Crawford, SF vs CIN ($2,700) – Crawford is an interesting contrarian play coming off the DL. However, he's been in the cleanup spot against right-handed pitching this season and had a .334 wOBA against righties a years ago. Bronson Arroyo is on the wrong side of 40 and his 6.53 ERA suggests his comeback attempt may be running on fumes.

Third Base

Miguel Sano, MIN at CWS ($3,600) – Sano appears to be headed toward a breakout season, crushing both left and right-handed pitching. He'll get southpaw Derek Holland and his wOBA in only 36 plate appearances this season is at .426 wOBA against lefties.

Outfield

Ryan Rua, TEX vs SD ($2,500) – Rua is similar to Brandon Guyer in that he's probably not an everyday player but will always have a roster spot because of his proficiency against lefties. Rua had a .437 home wOBA against lefties last season, showing his ability to take advantage of his home park. Clayton Richards has pitched well this season but has given up a .382 career wOBA to opposing right-handed hitters on the road.

Ben Gamel, SEA at TOR ($3,000) – The numbers Gamel has produced since joining the Mariners have been off the charts. He's established both a good floor and ceiling, reaching base in every game (13) and scoring 15.2 fantasy points six times. Marco Estrada isn't the best matchup tonight, but he's had issues with the long ball in the past.

Jose Bautista, TOR vs SEA ($3,400) – While a one-game sample isn't enough to make a prediction, it's worth noting Bautista is a streaky hitter that not only had a home run but two walks last night. It's a good home matchup for Bautista against rookie Chase De Jong, as the outfielder had a .361 wOBA against right-handed pitching last season.
