Yahoo DFS Baseball: Friday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Rick Porcello, BOS vs. TB ($42): Porcello has allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last four starts while striking out 24 in 26.2 frames. He'll face a Rays' offense that has the highest strikeout rate in the league at 25.9 percent against righties. Porcello is 8-2 with a 3.16 ERA and 79 Ks over 82.2 innings against the Rays over the past three seasons.

Jhoulys Chacin, SD at CWS ($27): Chacin and his 5.26 ERA makes him a clear risk, but a deeper look at his outings show he's had two horrendous starts (nine earned runs in 3.1 innings against the Angels, and seven in 6.0 innings at Arizona), but has held opponents to three or fewer runs in his five other appearances. The play here is against the White Sox bats however, who have the lowest wOBA against righties as a team (.274) and the sixth-highest strikeout rate at 24.0 percent. Chacin could be serviceable enough to allow heaving spending on hitters.

Catcher

Yadier Molina, STL vs. CHC ($11): The Cubs will, at least for now, send spot starter Eddie Butler to the hill to make his season debut. He was impressive in five Triple-A starts, but allowed a .411 wOBA to righties last year while also posting a 7.17 ERA. Molina has reached base in eight straight, keeping him from bottoming out at a position with minimal upside.

First Base

Kennys Vargas, MIN at CLE ($14): It's a small sample size, just 26 plate appearances, but Vargas has been crushing right handed pitching since his recall on April 23 to the tune of a .523 wOBA, 1.265 OPS and .520 ISO. He should see run producing chances against Josh Tomlin, who has allowed 24 runs over 30.1 innings.

Second Base

Daniel Murphy, WAS vs. PHI ($21): The Phils send rookie Nick Pivetta to the bump Friday, and he's allowed nine hits in each of his first two starts, both of which lasted just five frames. The Nats have three regulars with a wOBA north of .400, and Murphy checks in cheaper than Ryan Zimmerman and Bryce Harper, who both play positions that offer options. Murphy put up a .419 wOBA against righties last year, so his hot start isn't just that, giving him a safe floor. Weather could be a concern here, so be sure to check in close to game time.

Third Base

Manny Machado, BAL at KC ($19): This may be a tough sell for the casual player, as you'll find that Machado is 0-for-11 with seven strikeouts in his career against Friday starter Danny Duffy. But if you don't buy into that small sample size, you'll find that Machado has a .401 wOBA and .351 ISO against lefties this year. Impressive numbers since he's batting only .227 on the season. The .328 wOBA to righties that Duffy is allowing should give Machado a stable floor.

Shortstop

Xander Bogaerts, BOS vs TB ($17): Bogaerts brings a 15-game hitting streak into Friday's tilt, and he's 10-of-25 over his last five outings. Yes, he hasn't gone deep all season and has only nine RBI, but he has a .355 wOBA against righties, which offers a safe floor. He's far better suited for nontournament lineups given the lack of power.

Outfield

Mike Trout, LAA vs. DET ($27): There are rarely bad days to pencil Trout into your lineup, and his current .488 wOBA and .372 ISO against righties give you plenty of upside at a dollar less than Bryce Harper. The Tigers send Jordan Zimmerman to the hill, who has allowed 12 runs and a whopping seven home runs over his last 16.2 frames.

Keon Broxton, MIL vs. NYM ($17): It's anyone's guess what Matt Harvey will offer in his first start back following suspension, but taking a shot against a pitcher who has allowed 12 runs and 13 hits over his last 9.2 innings seems prudent. Broxton has been on fire of late, hitting .389 (20-of-52) since April 28 (not including Thursday,) and has a .369 wOBA against righties.

Ben Gamel, SEA at TOR ($15): Gamel has settled in nicely to two hole and is taking advantage of the pitches he's seeing hitting between Jean Segura and Nelson Cruz. Gamel has a .464 wOBA, partly due to a 19.6 walk rate, but is also sporting a nifty 1.087 OPS against righties. He's reached base safely in every game he's played since being recalled April 26th.
