DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Scott Feldman, CIN at SF ($7,800): Feldman is coming off one of the best starts of his career against the Giants at home and should be able to find success once again in the spacious confines of AT&T Park. Feldman has leaned on both his curveball and cutter this season, two pitches that the Giants hold bottom-10 marks against according to RAA.

Mike Leake, STL vs. CHC ($7,300): The Cubs have become a team known for offensive dominance, so it's a bit odd to see that they hold the second lowest RAA in the league against the cutter. This makes for an interesting matchup against Leake, as not only does he throw his cutter quite often (30 percent), his 5.6 RAA rates as the highest mark a qualified hurler has attained with the pitch this season.

Catcher

Matt Wieters, WAS vs. PHI ($3,500):Nick Pivetta still has a long way to go in his major-league career, but early returns have been less than promising, as he has allowed four homers in his first two starts. Wieters will look to get in on the fun in the team's second matchup with Pivetta, as he has tallied a 35 percent hard contact rate against righties over 85 at-bats.

First Base

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI vs. PIT ($5,300): It's difficult to talk about opposing starter Tyler Glasnow without mentioning his command issues. The former top prospect has logged a 14 percent walk rate over his six starts, and will now enter Chase Field, a park that has yielded the second most runs per game this season. Goldschmidt has notched a .276 ISO and a .463 wOBA against same-handed pitchers.

Second Base

Jedd Gyorko, STL vs. CHC ($4,400):Eddie Butler had a rough introduction to the major leagues, logging a 5.31 ERA in three seasons with the Rockies. The 26-year-old allowed four runs over 30.2 innings with Triple-A Colorado Springs prior to getting the promotion, but struck out just 17 batters over that span, contributing to a 5.08 xFIP. Gyorko has thrashed righties in 2017, logging a .313 ISO over 80 at-bats.

Third Base

Nick Castellanos, DET at LAA ($3,900):Matt Shoemaker has had a problem keeping the ball in the park against righties this season, allowing five long balls over 21.1 innings. Castellanos has had success against the splitter, and holds an incredible 53 percent hard contact rate over 133 at-bats.

Shortstop

Hernan Perez, MIL vs. NYM ($3,700):Matt Harvey and his 7.4 percent swinging strike rate will return after serving a suspension. Once known as a prolific strikeout artist, Harvey has actually walked more righties than he has punched out in 2017 while allowing a 36 percent hard contact rate. Perez has shown tremendous power against righties this season, as evidenced by his .258 ISO.

Outfield

Aaron Judge, NYY vs. HOU ($4,800): It's hard to find a better matchup for Judge than Lance McCullers on paper, as he throws his curveball 48 percent of the time, while the 25-year-old has notched a 7.0 RAA against the pitch. McCullers has struggled on the road this year, registering a 5.51 ERA over 16.1 innings (three starts).

Jay Bruce, NYM at MIL ($4,600): Platoon splits have not been kind to Matt Garza, as he has allowed a .654 slugging percentage to lefties over 6.0 innings. Bruce should be able to use his extreme fly ball rate to get some lift against Garza, who throws grounders at a 47 percent clip.

Kevin Pillar, TOR vs. SEA ($3,700): It's tough finding a recommendation in the Blue Jays' lineup these days, but I wanted to use the last slot to say a few words about another former Rockie in Christian Bergman, the M's starter Friday. As you may have guessed, Bergman didn't find success in Colorado, registering a 5.79 ERA over 147.2 innings. While he performed better on the road, batters still got to Bergman for a .498 slugging percentage and a 35 percent hard contact rate.
