FantasyDraft MLB: Thursday Values

This article is part of our FantasyDraft MLB series.

PITCHER

Tanner Roark, WAS at PIT ($17,400): With Jon Lester ($21,900) priced too high for my liking against a solid Reds team, I'm turning to other options. Roark isn't amazing, but he has a decent 18 strikeouts in his last three starts and that's enough to give him value. As a bonus, Pittsburgh has one of the worst wOBAs (.290) against righties.

Jose Berrios, MIN vs. COL ($12,400): Berrios surprised everyone in his first start of the season, making it 7.2 innings while only giving up one run and two hits. After getting shelled in almost every start a year ago, I'm riding that first performance and backing him in a more favorable matchup. The Rockies have great bats, but on the road that's not the case with a .295 wOBA and rather high 24.0 K%.

INFIELD

Alex Avila, DET vs. BAL ($6,000): There's always the chance that Avila doesn't start, but he played first base for Miguel Cabrera on Wednesday and that could be the case again Thursday, or even if James McCann is rested behind the plate. Avila mainly plays against righties and has a stout .502 wOBA and .313 ISO against them. Meanwhile, Dylan Bundy has been fine, but he is notably worse against lefties with a 5.04 xFIP.

Chris Davis, BAL at DET ($8,800): In what is expected to be another high scoring game between these teams to close out the series, we might as well grab a couple players. It also doesn't hurt that Davis has four homers in his last four games and a double Wednesday night. Jordan Zimmermann hasn't been good against either side of the plate (5.53 xFIP vs. lefties) and his 12.4 K% works well with Davis, who strikes out a lot as a power hitter.

Elvis Andrus, TEX vs. PHI ($7,800): I'll take this price any day for Andrus, who's been better against righties most of the season with a .351 wOBA that will come in handy against the fresh Nick Pivetta. The righty hasn't made it past five innings in his first three starts while allowing 10 runs, all to righties.

OUTFIELD

Nomar Mazara, TEX vs. PHI ($8,100): On the other side of the plate, there's no reason not to take Mazara, as Pivetta still sports a poor 4.06 xFIP against lefties. To help Mazara, he has a .361 wOBA against righties and decent 16.9 K%, and with how early Pivetta is getting out of games, it's even better that the Phillies have the worst bullpen xFIP at 4.83.

Miguel Sano, MIN vs. COL ($9,200): There's only one player I trust from the Twins to capitalize on Tyler Chatwood, who has given up at least five runs in three of his last four starts. Sano isn't as good against righties, but he still has a great .441 wOBA and .363 ISO against them. Chatwood hasn't been great against either side of the plate, including a .342 wOBA allowed to righties.

Bryce Harper, WAS at PIT ($10,800): As long as you have the money, you have to go with Harper against righties. He is great against both sides of the plate, as seen in his wOBA (.514 vs. righties), but his .422 ISO is what separates him. Tyler Glasnow just got lit up for seven runs and had allowed three in each of his previous three starts. He has poor numbers across the board against lefties from a .425 wOBA allowed to a 5.05 xFIP.

UTILITY

Aaron Altherr, PHI at TEX ($8,000): Altherr has continued his hot start and this is another great spot for him. He has a .482 wOBA and .429 ISO against lefties, but just as impressive is a 12.1 K%. Meanwhile, Martin Perez has given up at least six hits in every start this season and has a 12.9 K% versus righties.

Jonathan Schoop, BAL at DET ($6,800): Schoop had some cramping Tuesday night, but the Orioles were comfortable enough to play him Wednesday. His numbers against righties have been far better, posting a .378 wOBA and .244 ISO. With Zimmermann struggling to strike anyone out and giving up at least four runs in five of his last six starts, this has the makings of a solid day from Schoop and the Orioles.
