DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Chris Archer, TB vs. NYY ($10,800): Archer throws his slider with a frequency that some pitchers reserve for their fastball, and he has managed an 11.3 RAA over 58.1 innings (nine starts). The Yankees are a bottom-10 team against the pitch this season, and have struck out at a 22 percent clip versus right-handed pitching.

Aaron Nola, PHI at PIT ($8.300): Nola has been absent from the rotation for over a month while recovering from a back injury, but he was able to reach 83 pitches in his final rehab start, which seems to indicate that he will not face a significant pitch restriction upon his return. Nola has logged a swinging strike rate of 13 percent in his three starts with the big club, and should have success with his curveball, as the Pirates hold the second-lowest RAA in the league against the offering.

CATCHER

Buster Posey, SF at STL ($4,400):Adam Wainwright's fastball hasn't been effective this year, registering a -4.0 RAA. Meanwhile, Posey has tallied a 5.1 RAA against the pitch, while keeping a .404 wOBA against righty pitchers over 76 at-bats.

FIRST BASE

Mark Reynolds, COL at CIN ($4,800):Bronson Arroyo is another veteran whose fastball has seen better days, as it has registered a -8.8 RAA over just 41.1 innings (eight starts). Reynolds has the second-highest RAA against the heater this year (15.5), and he has dominated righties to the tune of a .305 ISO over 105 at-bats.

SECOND BASE

Ian Happ, CHC vs. MIL ($3,900): I am always on the lookout for hitters to exploit Chase Anderson's 44 percent hard contact rate against lefties, and Happ may be someone who can do the trick. The 22-year-old prospect has notched a 42 percent hard contact rate against righties in 18 at-bats this season, and has left the yard twice over that span.

THIRD BASE

Mike Moustakas, KC at MIN ($3,800):Phil Hughes has been roughed up by lefty hitters this year, as evidenced by the .566 slugging percentage and 46 percent hard contact rate he has allowed over 17.1 innings. Moustakas appears to have flown under the radar thanks to the struggles of his teammates, but he holds a .259 ISO and a .370 wOBA against righties in 112 at-bats.

SHORTSTOP

Francisco Lindor, CLE at HOU ($4,500): Opposing starter Joe Musgrove has kept the ball on the ground at a clip of 43 percent this season, which should provide an opportunity for Lindor, who has tallied a 45 percent fly-ball rate. Lindor has been a better overall hitter against lefties, but he has done more damage when facing right-handers, logging a .288 ISO over 104 at-bats.

OUTFIELD

Josh Reddick, HOU vs. CLE ($4,000):Danny Salazar's fastball has averaged 95 miles per hour this season, so it may surprise some to learn that the pitch has been woefully ineffective, having returned a -8.3 RAA. The 27-year-old has surrendered a slugging percentage of nearly .600 to left-handed hitters, while Reddick has notched a .224 ISO against his opposite hand in 116 at-bats.

Jayson Werth, WAS at ATL ($4,400)Jaime Garcia is known as a pitcher with impeccable control, but he has actually walked more right-handed batters than he has struck out this season, which has contributed to a 5.17 xFIP. Werth's big numbers against lefties are based on just 11 at-bats, but they may be a continuation of 2016, when he had a .432 wOBA over 121 at-bats.

Aaron Altherr, PHI at PIT ($4,300): The 2017 season has been a coming out party for Altherr, as evidenced by his .631 slugging percentage over 103 at-bats. Meanwhile, Chad Kuhl has struck out just 15 percent of the right-handed hitters he has faced, and has allowed 18 runs (17 earned) in 13.2 innings at PNC Park.
