FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

James Paxton, SEA vs. COL ($8,800): It's certainly a steep price to pay for a pitcher returning from injury, with the risk that he may not work deep into the contest. But prior to a brief DL stint, Paxton owned a 0.44 ERA and 29.5 percent strikeout rate at home. The Rockies' 24.2 percent fan rate, .197 ISO and 92 wRC+ bolster Paxton's appeal.

Catcher

Tyler Flowers, ATL at LAA ($2,800): Flowers has hit safely in 11 of his last 13 starts. He owns a .411 wOBA and 156 wRC+ against righties, second on the team only to the injured Freddie Freeman. Angels starter Jesse Chavez is allowing righties to post a .369 wOBA against while allowing nine long balls over 30.0 innings.

First Base

Logan Morrison, TAM at TEX ($3,500): The Rangers will use Austin Bibens-Dirkx for a spot start here, who has a 3.97 ERA working in long relief and has never thrown more than 4.2 innings in his big league career. He's served up a .400 wOBA and two homers to the 14 left-handed bats he's faced, while Morrison checks in with a .362 wOBA and .293 ISO against righties. Bibens-Dirkx isn't likely to work deep into the game, which would give Morrison a crack at the woeful Rangers' bullpen that boasts a 5.07 ERA, the second highest in the league.

Second Base

Whit Merrifield, KAN vs. DET ($3,200): Merrifield brings a 15-game hitting streak into Wednesday and has lit up lefties to the tune of a .460 wOBA, 194 wRC+ and 1.090 OPS. He should have ample chances to reach against a struggling Matthew Boyd, who has allowed 27 hits and seven walks over his last four starts (spanning 18.1 frames) and a .389 wOBA to right handers.

Third Base

Logan Forsythe, LAD at STL ($2,900): Forsythe's appeal is his price and place atop the Dodgers' lineup. Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez has surrendered three or fewer runs in each of his last six starts and is allowing only a .255 wOBA to righties while fanning them at a 29.9 percent clip. Forsythe has struggled to date, but posted a serviceable .337 wOBA against righties last year and comes with very minimal risk.

Shortstop

Trevor Story, COL at SEA ($3,000): Since returning from the disabled list on May 24, Story has hit .304 (7-of-23) while scoring five runs and walking four times. He owned a .409 wOBA against lefties last season, and despite just recently raising his batting average over .200, he currently boasts a .428 wOBA and 1.052 OPS against lefties this year.

Outfield

Brett Gardner, NYY vs. BAL ($3,600): Stacking against O's starter Kevin Gausman continues to be prudent; he's allowed 27 hits over his last 16.0 innings and owns a 6.17 ERA. Gardner boasts a .376 wOBA against righties, giving him a safe floor atop the Yanks' lineup, but he also possesses a .225 ISO, suggesting there's potential for more.

Melky Cabrera, CWS vs. BOS ($3,300): The White Sox have been surprisingly competent offensively of late, most recently battering Red Sox ace Chris Sale for six runs and nine hits over 5.0 innings. They'll get another lefty tonight in Drew Pomeranz, who has a 6.08 ERA on the road. Cabrera is 7-for-13 over his last three games with two long balls and has a steady .362 wOBA against lefties. This game has the highest total for the evening slate at 9.5, and Cabrera's place in the two-hole figures to allow him to contribute to the expected scoring.

Tommy Pham, STL vs. LAD ($3,200): Pham has feasted on lefties thus far, posting a 1.146 OPS and .457 wOBA against them. That should play well against spot starter Hyun-Jin Ryu, who has a 5.59 ERA on the road while allowing a .343 wOBA to right-handed sticks.
