Yahoo DFS Baseball: Friday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Stephen Strasburg, WAS at OAK ($55): Strasburg has got his strikeout game in order over his last two starts, fanning 26 over his last 14.2 frames. That alone should give him solid upside against a Athletics offense that ranked third entering Thursday with a 24.4 strikeout rate against right handers. Strasburg boasts a 2.94 ERA while Oakland counters by scoring the fifth fewest runs.

Derek Holland, CWS at DET ($38): Holland will face the Tigers for the second time in as many starts and third time already to date. In those two starts, he's allowed three earned runs and 12 hits while striking out 12 in 12.1 frames. Detroit's offense owns just a .316 wOBA and .182 ISO, suggesting Holland can repeat his moderate success against them.

Catcher

Salvador Perez, KAN vs. CLE ($15): I'm not a huge fan of paying up for catching, and it's reasonably accepted that batter v. pitcher stats aren't a great source for daily fantasy success. But let's buck that trend here. Perez is 18-of-35 (.514) with eight doubles and a homer against Indians starter Josh Tomlin. Perez also has a .370 wOBA and .884 OPS against righties compared to .227/.534 against southpaws. Tomlin is allowing a .357 wOBA to righties and has a 5.25 ERA on the road.

First Base

Matt Adams, ATL at CIN ($13): Reds starter Bronson Arroyo has allowed 18 homers in 10 starts, 10 of which have come to left handers in 89 at bats. He's allowing lefties to post a .427 wOBA and 1.052 OPS as a result. Adams has a .344 wOBA against righties compared to .088 against lefties, while 49 of his 58 career long balls have come against right-handers.

Second Base

Chris Taylor, LAD at MIL ($14): Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson has struggled more against righties than lefties to date, allowing a .368 wOBA versus .282. And while Taylor has hit lefties with more success, he still comes with a .376 wOBA against righties, having hit four of his six homers against them. Taylor has reached base safely in six straight and eight of nine, scoring seven times in that span, offering a flicker of potential.

Third Base

Mike Moustakas, KAN vs. CLE ($15): Given the struggles of Josh Tomlin we touched on earlier, a small stack of Royals isn't an awful idea, as they've been bad enough offensively to make the stack cost effective. Moustakas has hit 10 of his 13 homers off of right handers, and his .359 wOBA suggests a safe floor.

Shortstop

Xander Bogaerts, BOS at BAL ($22): Orioles starter Alec Asher has struggled greatly as a starter, owning a 6.28 ERA. His struggles have predominantly come against right handers, where he's allowing a .513 wOBA, 1.226 OPS and 44 percent hard contact rate. Bogaerts has been making consistent contact, and brings a .382 wOBA and .909 OPS since May 14 into Friday.

Outfield

Giancarlo Stanton, MIA vs. ARI ($21): Stanton has absolutely feasted on left-handed arms this year, owning a .534 wOBA, .545 ISO, 238 wRC+ and 46.4 percent hard contact rate. D'Backs starter Patrick Corbin comes in with a 9.00 ERA on the road, where he's allowed five homers over 14.0 innings and righties to produce a .480 wOBA and 1.163 OPS.

Matt Holliday, NYY at TOR ($18): No one would blame you for paying up for Aaron Judge in this matchup, but Holliday appears to offer a reasonably similar upside at a discount. Jays starter Francisco Liriano is allowing righties to post a .392 wOBA and had a 6.35 ERA prior to landing on the disabled list. Holliday counters with a .410 wOBA, .263 ISO and 161 wRC+ against lefties, and is 11-of-34 (.344) with two homers in his career against Liriano.

Adam Jones, BAL vs. BOS ($12): Red Sox starter Rick Porcello has been allowing hits with great regularity of late, surrendering 11 in each of his last two outings and nine in the two prior appearances; 40 total in 25.0 innings. He's been equally friendly to righties and lefties (.352 wOBA vs. .350, respectively) suggesting targeting a few cheaper Oriole bats could offer a safe floor. Jones' bat has come to life a bit of late, owning a .413 wOBA and .417 ISO against righties since May 21, giving him a bit more upside at this price than similar alternatives.
