FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Jose Berrios, MIN at SFG ($9,200): One might think that Berrios should offer more than the 10.4 percent swinging strike rate he has kept over five starts, but his fastball is still plenty live, as evidenced by the 9.2 RAA he has already tallied with the pitch. The Giants have logged the lowest wOBA in the league against righties, while hitting the ball on the ground at a 48 percent clip.

Catcher

Tyler Flowers, ATL vs. NYM ($2,900): Robert Gsellman has taken the worst of it on the road this season, surrendering 20 runs (15 earned) over 14.2 innings. Flowers' lack of power may persuade some to look elsewhere, but he has tallied a 6.3 RAA against the fastball, and has notched a .409 wOBA against same-handed pitchers over 115 at-bats.

First Base

Logan Morrison, TAM vs. OAK ($3,300): Sonny Gray has kept an ERA of 5.91 on the road over his last 70 innings dating back to last season. Morrison may be just the man to bring out the worst in Gray, as he will take a 46 percent flyball rate against the 27-year-old's extreme groundball tendencies.

Second Base

Jose Pirela, SDP vs. KAN ($2,200): The Padres brought Pirela to the big club after he slugged .635 in 181 at-bats at Triple-A El Paso, and he has not disappointed, collecting six hits (including two doubles) in his first 13 at-bats. Ian Kennedy has allowed a 1.9 HR/9 rate and a 36 percent hard contact rate to righty hitters in 2017.

Third Base

Wilmer Flores, NYM at ATL ($2,800): Sean Newcomb has been able to keep a 2.97 ERA through 57.2 innings at Triple-A Gwinnett this season despite walking 33 batters over that span. The 23-year-old's strikeout prowess has proven to be too much for minor-league hitters, but Flores could be a candidate to ruin his major-league debut, having registered a .259 ISO against lefties over 27 at-bats. The Mets don't feature many appealing names from the right side of the plate, but it may be worth considering them as a cheap stack in case Newcomb collapses under the weight of his walks.

Shortstop

Carlos Correa, HOU vs. LAA ($4,200): Ricky Nolasco's fastball has yielded a -9.6 RAA this season, while he has allowed a 42 percent hard contact rate against right-handed hitters. Correa is one of four Astros who hold a top 25 mark in RAA against the fastball, making Houston another offense that can be used in a stacking strategy.

Outfield

Brett Gardner, NYY vs. BAL ($3,500): As odd as it sounds to say that a player can break out in his age-33 season, we may need to start accepting it as a reality for Gardner, who is slashing .285/.367/.545 with a .261 ISO against righties over 165 at-bats. Chris Tillman has walked more left-handed batters than he has struck out this year, and will at some point have to come to Gardner with a fastball that has registered a -7.6 RAA over 29 innings.

Avisail Garcia, CWS at CLE ($3,100): Garcia has swung that bat well against pitchers from both sides in 2017, but is showing more power against righties, as we can see from his .228 ISO over 162 at-bats. Garcia will take a 9.0 RAA against the fastball into the matchup against Josh Tomlin, whose heater has notched a -5.4 RAA over 63.1 innings.

Tommy Pham, STL vs. PHI ($2,900): Opposition starter Nick Pivetta has been hit hard by righties despite a strong strikeout rate. The 24-year-old has surrendered a .661 slugging percentage to same-handed hitters over 13.2 innings. Pham has logged a .187 ISO against right-handed pitchers, while securing a hard contact rate of 39 percent over 75 at-bats.
