Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Stephen Strasburg, WAS vs. ATL ($55): No one has the upside of Strasburg on Monday, so I'm throwing all my money at him. He has at least 28.4 fantasy points in his last four starts mainly due to 41 strikeouts. While the Braves don't strike out a ton against righties (19.3 percent K rate) that may not matter against Strasburg, and they still have a below average .313 wOBA.

Rick Porcello, BOS vs. PHI ($38): As Strasburg provides upside, Porcello has the consistency, reaching at least 10 fantasy points in his last 10 starts. Sure, he's giving up a decent amount of runs and doesn't have high strikeout totals, but he's almost a lock to reach six innings. To help, the Phillies have a high K rate (23.4 percent) and low wOBA (.301) against righties.

CATCHER

Tony Wolters, COL at PIT ($10): Wolters has better hitting numbers against lefties, but his much lower 15.4 percent K rate against righties is the selling point with a .336 wOBA. On the mound, Jameson Taillon has a 16.9 percent K rate against lefties and is making his return from the 10-day DL due to testicular cancer. Taillon doesn't have bad numbers, but it could take him an outing or two to get back to form.

FIRST BASE

Mitch Moreland, BOS vs. PHI ($16): Moreland is surprisingly cheap in a great spot. In addition to hitting safely in each of his last six games, Moreland has a stout .373 wOBA and .234 ISO against righties. Jerad Eickhoff has given up at least three runs in his last four starts to go with just 14 strikeouts. To go along with that, Eickhoff allows a .361 wOBA and 5.07 xFIP to lefties.

SECOND BASE

Yangervis Solarte, SD vs. CIN ($12): The Padres don't have many hitters worth using in fantasy, but against Bronson Arroyo, a chance has to be taken. Arroyo has allowed at least two runs in every start, which is shown in his .407 wOBA allowed and 6.51 xFIP against lefties. Solarte is much better against righties with a .328 wOBA.

THIRD BASE

Miguel Sano, MIN vs. SEA ($21): Sano has hit both left-handers and right-handers well this season, but he sports a .416 wOBA against righties to go with 13 of his 15 homers. Yovani Gallardo has a below average 15.9 percent K rate against righties so that should help Sano, who strikes out a decent amount (37.9 percent K rate).

SHORTSTOP

Taylor Motter, SEA at MIN ($7): If you go with Strasburg, a batter or two will need to be extremely cheap and Motter fits the bill. His numbers aren't great, but that may not matter against Adalberto Mejia, who has a .367 wOBA allowed and 5.29 xFIP against righties.

OUTFIELD

Robbie Grossman, MIN vs. SEA ($17): Grossman is another play on the Twins against Gallardo. His .374 wOBA is great, and his .205 ISO against righties gives him even more upside against Gallardo, who has a 4.59 xFIP against lefties.

Brett Gardner, NYY at LAA ($20): Alex Meyer has been extremely impressive in his last five starts, giving up eight runs to go with 34 strikeouts. However, his walk rate (19.2 percent) can't be overlooked against lefties, nor can his .342 wOBA allowed or 5.33 xFIP. Gardner will make life tough on Meyer with his .382 wOBA and .254 ISO against righties.

Seth Smith, BAL at CWS ($10): Despite his his career numbers, Smith has been much better against lefties this season. Still, I'm willing to take him at a small price against the hittable Mike Pelfrey. The righty has put together a nice stretch, but has a 5.30 xFIP against lefties and has made it six innings just once this year.
