DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Zack Greinke, ARI vs. COL ($11,900): For a few thousand dollars cheaper than the top pitchers, Greinke is a relative value play Saturday. The Rockies aren't the same team on the road, as seen in their last two road series in which they were swept by the Giants and Dodgers. On the road against righties in June, Colorado has a .283 wOBA and 23.0 percent K rate. Greinke hasn't been as dominant in his last few starts, but struck out seven against the Rockies a couple weeks ago and could surpass that total in Arizona.

Rich Hill, LAD at SD ($11,300): Unfortunately none of the cheaper pitchers stand out, so Hill is the pick in a situation with high upside. Hill has 15 strikeouts in his last two starts and at least 19.6 fantasy points in three of his last four. The Padres are always a good team to go against and have a high 29.9 percent K rate in June against lefties with a mediocre .323 wOBA.

CATCHER

Tucker Barnhart, CIN vs. CHC ($2,900): While he's not an everyday starter, Barnhart should get the call against Eddie Butler. Barnhart's numbers are much better against righties this season with a .330 wOBA and low 12.5 percent K rate. Butler has allowed only one run in his last two starts, yet that was in just nine innings of work. He still has a 6.16 xFIP against lefties to help Barnhart.

FIRST BASE

Jose Abreu, CWS vs. TEX ($4,100): Even if Cole Hamels didn't just get blown up for seven runs, I'd still consider Abreu against a lefty due to his .477 wOBA and .243 ISO. Hamels has struggled with consistency and isn't striking anyone out with a 10.2 percent K rate and 5.70 xFIP against righties.

SECOND BASE

Ian Happ, CHC at CIN ($4,200): I wanted to get at least one Cub in this game and Happ has the best value with a decent .345 wOBA and .279 ISO against righties. Jackson Stephens is getting thrown into the gauntlet in his MLB debut. In Triple-A this year, Stephens has a 4.45 xFIP and 17.5 percent K rate, numbers which would both be below average in the majors.

THIRD BASE

Alex Bregman, HOU vs. NYY ($3,700): As one of the cheaper third basemen, this is a good spot for Bregman. His numbers are much better against lefties with a .387 wOBA, .183 ISO and 15.3 percent K rate. Jordan Montgomery has been great for the Yankees, but this is a tough spot for him and he already gave up four runs and eight hits to the Astros back in May. He's allowing a 4.18 xFIP against righties, which is fine, but not good enough to avoid.

SHORTSTOP

Tim Beckham, TB at BAL ($3,100): This is a good spot to test our luck even with a righty-righty matchup. Beckham has better numbers against righties this season with a .345 wOBA, and that number jumps to .415 for June with a lower 24.5 percent K rate (53 plate appearances). Dylan Bundy has 16 earned runs in his last four starts and has slightly worse numbers at home with a 4.54 xFIP against righties.

OUTFIELD

Curtis Granderson, NYM vs. PHI ($4,500): Until Granderson jumps a price level, I'll continue using him against righties. His .436 wOBA and .422 ISO are some of the best in June. His price is up plenty from two weeks ago, but against Jeremy Hellickson, it's still not high enough. Hellickson has calmed down his last couple outings, but I don't trust him just yet given his 6.66 xFIP against lefties.

Willy Garcia, CWS vs. TEX ($2,500): With Avisail Garcia nursing a knee injury, Willy Garcia is a logical place to turn with Hamels on the mound. Willy only has 26 plate appearances against lefties, but has a .399 wOBA. Plus, his 26.9 percent K rate isn't a huge deal due to Hamels's aforementioned 10.2 percent K rate against righties.

Jarrod Dyson, SEA at LAA ($4,200): Even though Ricky Nolasco looked great in his last start, I wanted to get at least one lefty in against him, and prior to that he gave up 10 runs in two starts. The Mariners have also been one of the best against righties in June with a team .337 wOBA. Part of that is because of Dyson, who has a .396 wOBA against righties in the last month. Nolasco has a 5.64 xFIP and lower 16.8 percent K rate against lefties.
