FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Jon Gray, COL vs. CIN ($6,400): The risk here is obvious, but Gray showed he could pitch in Coors Field last season, owning a 4.30 ERA that came with an impressive 27.1 strikeout rate, demonstrating his upside. The Reds own a .330 wOBA against righties, but just a 94 wRC+ and .178 ISO on the road. The strikeout upside gives Gray a great chance to outperform his price.

Catcher

Brian McCann, HOU at ATL ($2,800): Plenty of Astros look like nice plays Wednesday against Braves starter Jaime Garcia, who has allowed six earned runs in three straight starts, surrendering a .368 wOBA and five homers to the 99 right-handers he faced in June. McCann ranks third amongst 'Stros bats with a .401 wOBA against lefties, adding a 155 wRC+ and .327 ISO

First Base

Eric Hosmer, KAN at SEA ($3,400): Hosmer brings an 11-game hitting streak into Wednesday's tilt against Mariners starter Ariel Miranda. He leads the team with a .355 wOBA and 155 wRC+ against lefties, but could be better suited for cash games as his .141 ISO will limit his upside in tournament formats.

Second Base

Daniel Murphy, WAS vs. NYM ($3,400): Murphy is priced at a discount thanks to a tough matchup with Mets ace Jacob deGrom, and rightfully so, as he's allowed only three runs in his last four starts (32 innings). deGrom is limiting lefties to a .316 wOBA on the road, but still has a 4.56 ERA away from Citi Field compared to that of 2.56 at home. Murphy owns a .401 wOBA and 146 wRC+ against righties, stats that come at a bargain here, even if they are downplayed by the matchup.

Third Base

Freddie Freeman, ATL vs. HOU ($3,500): For many reasons listed above with McCann, I like Alex Bregman in this spot, but it's virtually impossible to pass on Freeman at his new position, knowing full well his price won't be this low in a week (or less). Prior to being sidelined, Freeman had a robust .489 wOBA, 205 wRC+ and .418 ISO. The floor is safe, the ceiling is high, especially for the price, and Astros starter Joe Musgrove has a 7.40 road ERA, where he's allowing lefties to produce a .414 wOBA and .996 OPS.

Shortstop

Orlando Arcia, MIL vs. BAL ($2,700): Arcia appears to be figuring out how to hit at the highest level. Since June 20, he's hitting .500 (22-of-44), which has led to a .549 wOBA, 242 wRC+ and 1.327 OPS. At a position where there are elite options and little else, Arcia appears to be breaking from that bottom pack and becoming a viable option, and there's no reason to think that can't continue against O's spot starter Jayson Aquino, who is expected to be recalled and start for Chris Tillman (paternity list).

Outfield

Ryan Braun, MIL vs. BAL ($4,100): This looks like a nice spot to pay up for Braun, who has hit safely in all six games since returning from injury and received Tuesday off to rest. He owns a .422 wOBA, 15 wRC+ and 1.011 OPS against lefties this season and is set to face the aforementioned Aquino, who has allowed three long balls over eight big league innings this season while giving up six runs in only two road frames.

J.D. Martinez, DET vs. SFG ($3,900): The matchup here appears too good to be true. Martinez boasts a .707 wOBA and 360 wRC+ against lefties over 36 plate appearances to date. No, those aren't typos and his dominance in a small sample size continues with a .667 ISO and 1.811 OPS. Giants starter Ty Blach has a 5.66 ERA on the road, where he's allowing a .439 wOBA and 1.017 OPS to righties.

Shin-Soo Choo, TEX vs. BOS ($3,000): There doesn't appear to be a wrong choice between Choo or teammate Nomar Mazara, as both have faired reasonably well against righties. Choo comes in $200 cheaper, and seemingly has the safer floor. His .355 wOBA and 118 wRC+ play solidly here against BoSox starter Doug Fister, whose .421 wOBA allowed in limited time this year to lefties is in line with the mark of .400 from last season.
