FantasyDraft MLB: Thursday Values

PITCHER

Rich Hill, LAD vs. ARI ($19,800):Chris Sale ($25,600) and Gio Gonzalez ($22,000) are both great plays, but I like a challenge. I took Hill in his last start against the Padres and he managed 11 strikeouts and no earned runs in seven innings. He's also recorded at least 19.55 fantasy points in four of his last five starts. The Diamondbacks have some nice bats, but they struggle against lefties and are last in MLB since June 1 with a .266 wOBA and 33.0 K%.

Sam Gaviglio, SEA vs. OAK ($12,000): If you don't like risks, I advise looking elsewhere. Gaviglio doesn't provide the consistency of Hill, but I like his upside against the Athletics. Oakland has one of the highest K%s against righties since the beginning of June at 27.1 and that could help Gaviglio, who doesn't have a high strikeout rate. He has made it at least five innings in his last nine starts, so the potential to go deep into the game is there.

INFIELD

Eduardo Escobar, MIN vs. BAL ($7,500): Escobar has been much better against righties in the last month with his wOBA up to .383 in the last 64 plate appearances. Dylan Bundy is one of the prime targets to go after on the mound, as he's given up 18 runs in his last four starts. Even worse (but better for Escobar), Bundy has a 6.10 xFIP and low 12.6 K% against lefties.

Alex Bregman, HOU at TOR ($6,800): Continuing the trend of going against pitchers that are getting blown up, Francisco Liriano has allowed five runs in two of his last three starts and only has nine strikeouts in those three games. A lot of that has come against righties with his .370 wOBA allowed and 5.57 xFIP. Bregman doesn't cost much and has a much better wOBA against lefties at .378.

Daniel Murphy, WAS vs. ATL ($9,900): Having gone a little cheaper above, Murphy can be gambled on in a plus-matchup. His .406 wOBA and .241 ISO against righties is one of the best and Mike Foltynewicz has iffy numbers against lefties. Even if he's been solid his last few starts, Foltynewicz still has a 5.36 xFIP and .366 wOBA allowed against lefties.

OUTFIELD

George Springer, HOU at TOR ($9,900): Returning to the Astros, Springer is back to his early-season hitting and has a .522 wOBA and .423 ISO against lefties in his last 62 plate appearances. Liriano is in a rut, allowing at least two runs in his last eight starts and has a much lower K% against righties (18.5 vs. 29.4).

Max Kepler, MIN vs. BAL ($8,700): This time against Bundy I'll use a bigger bat with Kepler, who has a .393 wOBA and .266 ISO since June 1 (84 plate appearances). That should work great against a struggling Bundy with his 3.5 K-BB% (12.6-9.1).

Jarrod Dyson, SEA vs. OAK ($7,200): Dyson should only be used against righties, and that's what Paul Blackburn is. The rookie was solid in his first start, allowing zero runs, but still leaves a lot to be desired after a 4.43 xFIP and 17.1 K% in 14 Triple-A starts this year. Dyson has a .382 wOBA in his last 82 plate appearances against righties.

UTILITY

Trey Mancini, BAL at MIN ($6,800): Mancini's numbers against righties are good enough to test Jose Berrios with a .403 wOBA and .266 ISO. Berrios had a nice run going, but has allowed nine runs and 17 hits in his last two starts so I'll hope that trend continues.

Cory Spangenberg, SD at CLE ($6,900): Spangenberg has come along in the last month with his .414 wOBA and .211 ISO against righties standing out since June 1. Josh Tomlin still hasn't figured things out, allowing at least four runs in his last four starts and a xFIP higher than 4.00 against both sides of the plate.
