Pitcher
Josh Tomlin, CLE vs SD ($7,400) – There's no reason to stray from Chris Sale in cash games, but Tomlin is an option an any GPP. While he's struggled as of late, this is as good a matchup as he'll get this season. San Diego ranks towards the bottom in almost every category this season on the road against right-handed pitching, including strikeout rate (28.1%), wOBA (.295) and runs scored (3.58). Cleveland plays more as a pitcher's park and Tomlin will have the added incentive of knowing if he gets shelled he may not have a spot in the rotation after the All-Star break.
Catcher
Evan Gattis, HOU at TOR ($2,700) – Gattis hasn't hit lefties quite as well this season as last, but an unlucky .209 BABIP is likely the culprit rather than a drop in performance. Last season, Gattis had a .366 wOBA against southpaws (.379 on the road) and will face off against Francisco Liriano on Thursday. In only 50 innings pitched against right-handed batters, Liriano has allowed seven home runs, leading to a .370 wOBA against that handedness.
First Base
Yonder Alonso, OAK at SEA ($3,300) – Alonso quietly is on pace for almost 40 home runs after hitting only seven last season despite playing full time. He's taken more of a power approach this season, which has caused his strikeout rate increase almost 10 percent, but he's also had a huge spike in his power stats with an increase in ISO from .114 to .288. Sam Gaviglio is a good matchup, as the 27 year-old has given up 11 home runs this season in only 51.2 innings.
Second Base
Daniel Murphy, WAS vs ATL ($3,900) – Combing through the position, it doesn't take long to see there aren't any real bargains and it's almost a given that most owners will roster a player at second base who is $3,400 or more. Murphy has a nice matchup against Mike Foltynewicz and is coming off a 4-for-5 game on the 4th of July. Foltynewicz's issues this season have been with left-handed bats, who have tagged him for a .366 wOBA, right in line with his .369 career mark against that handedness.
Shortstop
Francisco Lindor, CLE vs SD($3,300) – This is a good price for an elite shortstop given that Carlos Correa is DTD and Trea Turner is on the DL. Lindor had two doubles Wednesday against the Padres and Dinelson Lamet has struggled on the road in a limited sample. Away from the friendly confines of Petco Park, Lamet has an ERA over seven, and he's given up four home runs in only 14 innings.
Third Base
Kyle Seager, SEA vs OAK ($2,500) – This is as low as Seager's price has been over the last few seasons despite him averaging nine fantasy points per game. It's a great matchup for him at home against Paul Blackburn, who is a pitcher to fade tonight. Seager has a .347 wOBA at home against right-handed pitching this season after owning a .395 mark a season ago.
Outfield
Enrique Hernandez, LAD vs ARI ($2,300) – This is a bit of contrarian pick given that Hernandez is facing off against Robbie Ray, who has been fantastic this season. However, he has always hit left-handed pitching well (.405 wOBA this season) and has some solid history against Ray. Hernandez also has three homers in 15 at-bats against Ray.
Jose Pirela, SD at CLE ($2,700) – Pirela has done nothing but rake since joining the big club, hitting over .300 with some power (three home runs) and speed (three stolen bases) since the beginning of June. Tomlin has displayed reverse splits this season, giving up a .395 wOBA to right-handed hitters, which is the side of the plate where Pirela will dig in Thursday.
Matt Kemp, ATL at WAS ($2,900) – The price has come down on Kemp, and a lot of that has to do with how good Gio Gonzalez has been this season. With a sub-3.00 ERA, it seems Gio has been a tad lucky with that stat given he has a career-low .255 BABIP and his 85.4% LOB rate is a career best, as well. Kemp has always been strong against southpaw pitching and he's hit Gonzalez well, going 7-for-19 with two home runs against him.
