Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

The final pre-All Star break slate features all 30 teams and will begin at 1:05 p.m. EDT. Exploiting vulnerable pitchers is key to finding daily value, and this set offers a number of quality options to stack against.

PITCHER

Clayton Kershaw, LAD vs. KC ($66): Kershaw's always about as safe as it gets, but even fantasy managers who usually prefer to spend elsewhere should save up for the Dodgers' ace in this matchup. Expect him to push his winning streak to seven consecutive starts at home against a Royals team that ranks 24th with 4.19 runs per game. Kershaw should also generate plenty of additional value with a strikeout total that figures to once again be among the day's leaders given that his strikeout rate sits well over 30 percent for the fourth consecutive year.

Steven Matz, NYM at STL ($45): Matz has scored north of 20.0 fantasy points in four of five starts despite posting a 16.4 percent strikeout rate. That number figures to rise closer to the 26-year-old lefty's career 22.3 percent mark before long while his sub-3.00 career ERA gives him a strong floor regardless of opponent. The combination of opponent and location also plays in Matz's favor, as the Cardinals have scored the 11th-fewest runs per game this season while Busch Stadium has the league's fourth-lowest park factor at 0.84.

CATCHER

Jason Castro, MIN vs. BAL ($11): This pick is more about the pitcher Castro's facing than Castro himself. The left-handed hitting catcher sports a respectable .326 career wOBA against righties while Baltimore starter Ubaldo Jimenez has been among the league's least effective pitchers against left-handed betters. Jimenez has allowed a .426 wOBA to his first 154 hitters faced from that side, declining even further after surrendering a .378 mark to 268 such batters in 2016. Castro will also be hitting in favorable conditions given Target Field's third-ranked 1.20 park factor.

FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI vs. CIN ($27):Homer Bailey disappointed many daily fantasy players by holding the Rockies to one run over six innings at Coors Field in his last appearance, but the veteran right-hander's 12.66 ERA and 2.34 WHIP through three starts despite that outing suggest stacking against him is worth another shot. Goldschmidt's wOBA against righties this season is a tremendous .452, including .477 at home. Between Chase Field's second-ranked 1.27 park factor and Homer Bailey's .555 wOBA allowed to right-handed hitters this season, Goldschmidt's the safest bet to have a big game heading into the All-Star break.

SECOND BASE

DJ LeMahieu, COL vs. CWS ($18): LeMahieu looked fully healthy Friday after missing a few days with a groin injury, smacking a home run and scoring twice in a two-hit performance. He could well post a similar line Sunday against southpaw Carlos Rodon, making him tough to pass at $18 in this home matchup. LeMahieu's 94 plate appearances against lefties have produced a .427 wOBA, including .499 in 49 chances at Coors Field.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, ARI vs. CIN ($24): Arizona's clean-up hitter has driven in 67 runs this season, with 58 coming against right-handed pitching. His .418 wOBA in that split suggests that RBI total is likely to grow given Bailey's aforementioned struggles this season. Bailey has allowed a .021 higher career wOBA to left-handed hitters compared to those from the right side, and he has found little success in such situations with a .372 mark in 2017.

SHORTSTOP

Tim Anderson, CWS at COL ($8): Anderson is the perfect choice for fantasy managers looking to spend big at other positions. He's hitting .325 in 83 at-bats against lefties while southpaw Kyle Freeland has allowed a .342 wOBA to right-handed hitters. The extra upside from playing at the league's most hitter-friendly park (1.33 park factor) makes Anderson well worth a look in this favorable matchup at just $1 above the minimum.

OUTFIELD

Marcell Ozuna, MIA at SF ($23): Ozuna has found tremendous success in righty-on-righty matchups this season, launching 21 homers and 14 doubles in 286 plate appearances en route to a .398 wOBA. He should be able to maintain that success against Matt Cain, who has allowed a .351 wOBA to hitters from the right side to go with a 5.58 ERA and 1.68 WHIP. Cain has also been trending in the wrong direction with 26 earned runs allowed in 30.2 innings over his past six starts.

Adam Engel, CWS at COL ($13): Engel is another affordable White Sox hitter primed to flourish against Freeland at Coors Field. The rookie's strong play recently got him promoted to the leadoff spot, and he has a .403 wOBA against left-handed pitching. Engel's also a threat to contribute on the base paths, as he has already swiped four bags in 25 games and had a 65-steal campaign at the single-A level in 2015.

Eddie Rosario, MIN vs. BAL ($16): All left-handed Twins hitters are strong plays Sunday, but Rosario's .357 wOBA against righties makes him the best-equipped option to find success facing Jimenez. Nine of Rosario's 10 home runs this season have come against right-handed pitching at Target Field while Jimenez has already surrendered 14 homers to batters from the left side en route to his .426 allowed wOBA.
