FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Madison Bumgarner, SF vs AZ ($10,300) – Bumgarner did not look sharp in his first start back from the DL, but he looked pretty good against the Dodgers last time out. Hopefully that's an indication that he's on his way back and if so, he's the best option on this slate. Arizona can certainly do damage against good pitching, but the Diamondbacks enter with the highest K% against lefties this season.

Catcher

Cameron Rupp, PHI at COL ($3,000) – FanDuel made an adjustment last season to account for the higher numbers generally posted at Coors Field, so to find a player with any upside for $3k in Denver is a huge bargain. Kyle Freeland takes the mound for the Rockies and he's been pretty solid this season, but he's not elite and there's no reason to avoid a non-elite pitcher at Coors. Rupp has posted some huge numbers lately, which has vaulted him into the lead among Phillies in wOBA against lefties this season.

First Base

Jose Abreu, CHW at BOS ($3,700)Eduardo Rodriguez enters with a 4.13 ERA, which isn't terrible, but he's been pretty bad over his past four starts, allowing four or more runs three times. Abreu is the best bat in the White Sox lineup, entering with a .441 wOBA against lefties this season, which is top-20 in the majors.

Second Base

Jose Altuve, HOU vs TOR ($4,200) – Altuve's been great overall, but his numbers against righties are a bit better, as he owns a .419 wOBA against them this season. The Astros will face righty Cesar Valdez, who enters with a 6.59 ERA.

Shortstop

Eduardo Escobar, MN vs TEX ($2,900)Martin Perez enters with a 5.13 ERA, but he's been much worse than that lately. Perez has allowed 16 runs over 17.1 innings in his past three starts. The Twins are one of the better stacks on the board, and although there are better options at different positions, like Miguel Sano and Brian Dozier, Escobar offers a lot of value for his price. Escobar enters with a .374 wOBA against lefties this season, which is third on the Twins.

Third Base

Adrian Beltre, TEX at MN ($4,200) – Beltre enters with a .371 wOBA against righties this season, which leads the Rangers and he also has some impressive lifetime numbers against Bartolo Colon (20-for-74 with six home runs).

Outfield

Andrew McCutchen, PIT vs SD ($4,000) – McCutchen has been carrying the Pirates for the better part of the past three months and has yet another solid matchup against Travis Wood. Wood is coming off a quality start against the Pirates, but he still carries a 6.42 ERA and the odds are against another strong outing against the team he shut down just a week ago. McCutchen enters with a .513 wOBA against lefties, which is fourth in the majors.

Tommy Pham, STL at CIN ($3,600)Asher Wojciechowski started the season poorly, but a recent stint in the bullpen seems to have put him back on track. That said, we've seen this scenario before, where a struggling pitcher seemingly gets right in the bullpen, only to struggle when returning to the rotation. He certainly may have figured things out, but until he proves it, I'm going to target him. Pham enters with a .388 wOBA against righties this season, making him the most likely to expose Wojciechowski.

Derek Fisher, HOU vs TOR ($2,800) – As long as Fisher is facing a righty, he simply has too much value at this price to pass up. Fisher is averaging 12.2 points per game this season and he sometimes sneaks into the leadoff spot in a very potent lineup. As mentioned earlier, with Valdez on the mound for the Blue Jays, the Astros are in play for a stack and if you need a cheaper piece to fill out that stack, Fisher is your man.
