Yahoo DFS Baseball: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Danny Salazar, CLE at TB ($50): Salazar has been incredibly erratic this season, but he's pitched some of his best ball over his past three starts. In those three starts, Salazar has allowed just three runs in 20 innings, while striking out 28 batters. The matchup against the Rays is pretty good as well as they strike out at a high rate against righties. The Rays enter with the third highest K rate against righties this season.

Luis Castillo, CIN vs SD ($36): This has nothing to do with the pitchers at the top of the slate, as Jacob deGrom and James Paxton are certainly good options, but if you want to go cheaper then Castillo provides an interesting option. Castillo comes with plenty of risk, but he also has a nice upside and against the Padres, we could see him reach his potential. The Padres enter with the fourth lowest wOBA and the second highest K rate against righties this season.

CATCHER

Gary Sanchez, NYY at TOR ($16): I attempted to find a cheap option at catcher, but there were none I liked, so I'm paying up for Sanchez. He happens to have a good matchup, so I'm okay with it. Sanchez and the Yankees face Marco Estrada, who has struggled for most of the season and enters with a 5.12 ERA. Sanchez enters with a .368 wOBA against righties this season and he's coming off a solid game last night against righty Nick Tepesch.

FIRST BASE

Joey Votto, CIN vs SD ($22): Dinelson Lamet began the season as a stacking target, but he's pitched his way up to being a selective stacking target. With that in mind, a full stack is not in play against Lamet, but I'm still looking at a few players in the Reds lineup. Votto is certainly one of those players as his numbers against righties this season are impressive. Votto enters with a .435 wOBA against righties this season, which is top five in the majors.

SECOND BASE

Brian Dozier, MN at MIL ($20): Dozier's career has been defined by wild highs and lows and right now, he's in the middle of one of those extreme highs. Dozier has five home runs in his past six games and his two most recent home runs have come against right-handed pitching. His season-long numbers against righties aren't as good as his numbers against lefties, but he's locked in right now against all pitching, so he's definitely in play.

THIRD BASE

Ryon Healy, OAK vs BAL ($10): Wade Miley has made every scheduled start over the past two months, yet he hasn't posted a quality start since June 1. That doesn't quite tell the tale of how poorly he's pitched over that span either, but you get the idea. The A's aren't generally a good team to stack, though, so we'll be picking our spots against Miley. Healy is the best option on the A's against a lefty as he enters with a .448 wOBA against lefties this season, which is top 20 in the majors.

SHORTSTOP

Corey Seager, LAD at AZ ($23): If the Dodgers were facing a lefty last season, you could pretty much write off the entire lineup, but that hasn't been the case this season. Seager has really upped his game against lefties (.423 wOBA) and is now in play against any non-elite lefty. The Dodgers will face Anthony Banda, who enters with one good start and one bad start on the season. Expect the Dodgers to get to the young lefty and for Seager to lead the way.

OUTFIELD

Ryan Braun, MIL vs MN ($20): How far have the Brewers fallen? Well, they were shut out by Bartolo Colon and two relievers last night. If there's any pride in that clubhouse, they'll punish Kyle Gibson tonight. Gibson has pitched well enough that he's not a stacking target, but there are certainly some bats in the Brewer lineup that I am looking at and Braun is at the top of that list, as he carries a .366 wOBA against righties this season.

Austin Jackson, CLE at TB ($13): With the acquisition of Jay Bruce to replace Michael Brantley in the Indians lineup, Jackson's spot against lefties should now be solidified as Bruce generally doesn't fare well against lefties. With that in mind, Jackson is a good option tonight against a struggling Blake Snell, who was actually sent to the minors after his most recent start and only called back up due to an injury to Alex Cobb. Jackson enters with a .414 wOBA against lefties this season and provides a cheap outfield option with some upside.

Nelson Cruz, SEA vs LAA ($20): Tyler Skaggs has shown some nice upside this season, but he's also been terribly inconsistent. He's coming off a poor outing, his first since being activated from the DL, in which he allowed three runs over just four innings to the light-hitting Oakland A's. The Mariners as a team are middle of the pack against lefties, but the best bat in their lineup lately has been Cruz. Cruz enters with a .389 wOBA against lefties this season.
