DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitchers

Chris Sale, BOS at CLE ($13,700): Sale actually does carry some risk, considering the Indians tagged him for seven earned runs over five innings in his one previous encounter with them this season. However, Cleveland sports just a .237 wOBA and has a 27.5 percent strikeout rate against southpaws at home in the last 21 days, while Sale has actually been better on the road, averaging 32.1 fantasy points over his 14 starts outside of Fenway. He also brings upside north of 40 fantasy points, making him worth the investment on a short slate.

Jake Arrieta, CHC at CIN ($10,200): Arrieta has been solid on the road this season and has over 20 fantasy points in four of his last five starts, with two of those performances having come outside of Wrigley. He's also averaged 25.3 fantasy points against the Reds in two prior starts this season and boasts a 2.00 ERA, .195 BAA and .260 wOBAallowed over his 45 second-half innings.

Catcher

Yadier Molina, STL vs. SD ($3,800):  Molina checks in swinging a hot bat, boasting a .421 wOBA and 41.7 percent hard contact rate over his 76 August plate appearances. Meanwhile, Padres starter Luis Perdomo has yielded a .361 wOBA, 30.0 percent HR/FB rate and 32.6 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters on the road, and the Padres bullpen has a 6.31 ERA and has allowed a .390 wOBA, including nine homers, to right-handed hitters on the road over the last 21 days.

First Base

C.J. Cron, LAA vs. TEX ($3,600): Cron sports a .366 wOBA, .333 ISO, 28.6 percent HR/FB rate and 34.2 percent hard contact rate versus lefties at home, making him an appealing and cost-effective target against Rangers starter Martin Perez. Perez has allowed a .368 wOBA (including 17 homers), a 5.21 xFIP and 36.8 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters, and he has a 6.43 ERA and .352 wOBA allowed over his 49 frames since the All-Star break.

Second Base

Brian Dozier, MIN at CWS ($5,400): Dozier has decimated left-handed pitching for a .424 wOBA, .267 ISO and 38.0 percent hard contact rate, while White Sox starter Derek Holland has an 11.65 ERA and a .445 wOBA allowed over his last six outings. He's also surrendered a .410 wOBA (including 25 homers), 5.98 xFIP and 41.5 percent hard contact rate to righty bats on the season, while White Sox relievers have a 10.47 ERA and have allowed a .481 wOBA to right-handed hitters at home in the last three weeks.

Third Base

Rafael Devers, BOS at CLE ($4,000): Devers has pounded both handedness during the impressive start to his major-league career and owns a .385 wOBA, .309 ISO, 31.6 percent HR/FB rate and 38.5 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching. Indians starter Trevor Bauer has allowed a .354 wOBA, including 12 homers, and a 35.6 percent hard contact rate to lefty bats, and Cleveland relievers have a 5.62 ERA and have allowed a .385 wOBA to left-handed hitters at home in the last 21 days.

Shortstop

Eduardo Escobar, MIN at CWS ($3,800): The struggles of White Sox starter Derek Holland and Chicago relievers against left-handed hitters were detailed earlier, while the switch-hitting Escobar has touched up southpaws outside of Target Field for a .373 wOBA and .268 ISO. He also has a successful history against Holland, posting a .556 average over 10 plate appearances.

Outfield

Andrew Benintendi, BOS at CLE ($4,800): The struggles of both Indians starter Trevor Bauer and the Cleveland bullpen against lefty hitters were detailed earlier, while Benintendi boasts a .446 wOBA, including six homers, and a 35.5 percent hard contact rate over 82 August plate appearances. He's also pounded righties for a .366 wOBA, .228 ISO and 37.9 percent hard contact rate on the season.

Howie Kendrick, WAS at HOU ($4,200): Kendrick's body of work against Astros southpaw Dallas Keuchel includes a .444 average over 18 plate appearances. Kendrick also sports a .440 wOBA, .262 ISO, 33.3 percent HR/FB rate and 43.1 percent hard contact rate versus left-handed pitching, while Keuchel has a 5.26 ERA and .366 wOBA allowed over 25.2 innings since the All-Star break.

Nicky Delmonico, CWS vs. MIN ($3,700): The spectacular start to Delmonico's major-league career includes a .544 wOBA, .480 ISO and 50.0 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching on the road over a modest sample. Meanwhile, Twins starter Jose Berrios has allowed six homers, a 5.29 xFIP and 31.6 percent hard contact rate to lefty bats, numbers that bely the .307 wOBA he's yielded to that handedness.
