FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Kyle Hendricks, CHC at PHI ($8,000):Carlos Rodon's strikeout upside is very appealing, but the Tigers surprisingly have the league's top offense (.360 wOBA, 124 wRC+) against lefties. As such, Hendricks appears to offer a safe alternative against a weak-hitting Phillies lineup. Philadelphia ranks 24th against righties with a .303 wOBA, also sporting a –21.9 wRAA. Hendricks has allowed three runs or less in all six starts since the All-Star break, four times surrendering one run or less. At worst, Hendricks gives a stable floor in cash formats.

Catcher

Buster Posey, SFG at ARI ($3,000): The limited main slate appears to have really cut the options behind the dish. As such, Posey brings some stability at a fair price. He's been better against lefties, but his .340 wOBA and 111 wRC+ against right-handers aren't anything to scoff at, while D-Backs starter Taijuan Walker has a 4.42 home ERA.

First Base

Lucas Duda, TAM at STL ($3,200): Duda is one of two Rays who will be featured here as there's solid reasoning for stacking left-handed bats against the Cards' Mike Leake, who has a 10.31 ERA over four August starts while allowing opposite-handed bats to post a .512 wOBA and 1.213 OPS. Duda hasn't been swinging well of late, but still owns a .353 wOBA and 124 wRC+ against righties since coming over from the Mets.

Second Base

Ozzie Albies, ATL vs. COL ($3,000): Writing these pieces multiple times per week, I like to try and swap guys out. But when players remain hot, and their prices remain stable, sometimes just a brief edit is needed. Over the last week, Albies has continued to look like the top prospect he was billed as, collecting two more hits Friday. His 35.7 percent hard hit rate against lefties is solid, while his .086 BABIP is impossibly low. There's a solid chance he hits safely for the seventh time in eight games Saturday against Kyle Freeland, who's allowed a .356 wOBA to opposite-handed bats on the road.

Third Base

Alex Bregman, HOU at LAA ($4,100): Bregman has enjoyed a fine August, hitting .356 with five homers, 12 runs, 18 RBI and three steals in 23 games. He's white hot at the moment, going 13-for-25 over his last six games, and owns a .432 wOBA, 177 wRC+ and 1.042 OPS against lefties on the road.

Shortstop

Dansby Swanson, ATL vs. COL ($2,700): Swanson has fared much better at the dish since returning from his brief demotion to Triple-A, hitting safely in 10 of his last 13 games. He's showing improved patience, walking nine times in his last seven games, which has led to more run-scoring chances, and in turn, moderate fantasy points. He's posted a .364 wOBA and 123 wRC+ against lefties since his return, and offers a nice cost savings.

Outfield

Giancarlo Stanton, MIA vs. SDP ($5,100): Forget the price, and at this point, we can just bypass Stanton's splits; he's been that good. He's not a must play nightly, but the potential explosion means he has to be considered whenever you set a lineup. And with Saturday's slate, do you really have confidence Dinelson Lamet can slow Stanton down? Lamet has a 5.72 road ERA and is allowing righties to produce a 42.9 percent fly ball rate.

Kevin Kiermaier, TEX at LAA ($3,200): We've touched on Leake's struggles of late, but Kiermaier is a sound play against righties even without them. He's carrying a .376 wOBA and 139 wRC+ against opposite-handed arms during the year, but he's been dynamite since returning from a broken hip on August 18, slashing .438/.471/1.188 in 17 plate appearances against righties, going deep three times.

Jose Martinez, STL vs. TAM ($2,400): Martinez has started just once over the last six games, but has been dialed in against lefties, making him a nice play against the Rays' Blake Snell. Martinez has an eye-opening .470 wOBA, 193 wRC+ and .366 ISO against lefties to date, while Snell has allowed a .365 wOBA to opposite-handed bats away from home.
