Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Tuesday's MLB slate features all 30 teams and starts at 7:05 PM Eastern time. The players below are located all over the price spectrum, but they all offer strong bang for the buck at their respective valuations, making them the night's top value plays.

PITCHER

Mark Leiter Jr., PHI vs. ATL ($32): Leiter has turned things on over his past four appearances, posting a 2.11 ERA and 22:5 K:BB over 22.1 innings. The rookie right-hander has worked his way back into the rotation after starting that dominant stretch in long relief and is unlikely to see his role reduced any time soon after holding the Marlins to one hit in seven innings last time out. Atlanta's offense ranks 22nd with a .731 OPS against righties, so this is the perfect opportunity to use Leiter before his price skyrockets.

Jake Arrieta, CHC vs. PIT ($50): Arrieta's recent form makes him worth his hefty price tag here. His ERA in 10 starts since the beginning of July is a tidy 1.85, and Arrieta has a 0.98 WHIP over that span to boot. The righty's 23.4 percent strikeout rate makes him a dangerous option in that category as well, while Pittsburgh's 27th-ranked offense doesn't strike any fear into opponents.

CATCHER

Alex Avila, CHC vs. PIT ($13): Chicago has experienced little to no drop-off in production behind the plate since Willson Contreras (hamstring) went down, as Avila has stepped up in his absence with hits in each of his last nine starts. The former Tiger has been especially effective against righties, posting a .391 wOBA in that split this season. That success should continue here against Pirates starter Chad Kuhl, who has allowed a .367 wOBA to batters from the left side while posting an unimpressive 4.52 ERA and 1.45 WHIP.

FIRST BASE

Edwin Encarnacion, CLE at NYY ($19): Encarnacion has recovered after a slow start and already sits above the 30-homer mark for the sixth consecutive season. His home run total could well rise in this Yankee Stadium matchup with southpaw Jaime Garcia considering the venue ranks second with a 1.34 home run park factor. Garcia has a 5.95 ERA through four starts with New York while Encarnacion owns a .375 career wOBA against lefties.

SECOND BASE

Scooter Gennett, CIN vs. NYM ($15): Gennett has abused right-handed pitching all year, posting a .387 wOBA. Expect that trend to continue in this home battle with the underwhelming Chris Flexen, who has allowed a .389 wOBA to left-handed hitters in his first six major-league starts. Flexen also has a horrid 19:20 K:BB in 28 innings and sports an 8.18 road ERA through three such appearances.

THIRD BASE

Luis Valbuena, LAA vs. OAK ($14): Oakland was hoping to move Chris Smith into the bullpen for good, but Paul Blackburn's wrist injury has forced the underwhelming righty back into the rotation for this one. Angels batters will be licking their chops in anticipation of this opportunity, as Smith has a 5.56 ERA and has surrendered 2.27 HR/9. That vulnerability to the long ball could come into play against Valbuena, who's in the midst of a power binge that's featured six home runs in his past 11 games. All but one of Valbuena's 17 dingers this year have come against right-handed pitching, so this is an ideal matchup for the left-handed slugger to continue his recent success.

SHORTSTOP

Freddy Galvis, PHI vs. ATL ($13): Personal history against R.A. Dickey carries more weight than with most pitchers, as many batters are either extremely proficient when facing knuckleballers or can't hit them at all. Galvis falls into the former category, as he's produced an impressive .300/.333/.550 line in 20 at-bats against Dickey. The 42-year-old knuckleballer comes in with an unimpressive 4.06 ERA and 4.83 xFIP while the switch-hitting shortstop has been a major part of Philadelphia's recent offensive uptick with six runs, four RBI and three steals over his past six games.

OUTFIELD

Mike Trout, LAA vs. OAK ($26): Trout has lit up pitchers much trickier than Smith, who has allowed a .374 wOBA along with 10 long balls in a 108-batter sample against right-handed hitters. The transcendent outfielder has already launched 26 home runs in 86 games, with 24 of those powering his .458 wOBA in righty-on-righty situations. He won't come cheap, but this is a sensible time to shell out top dollar for Trout.

Alex Presley, DET at COL ($9): Presley's been a thorn in right-handers' sides all year, producing a .300/.349/.383 line in that split. While the left-handed hitting outfielder doesn't usually provide much in the power department, he could well buck that trend against German Marquez at Coors Field. Marquez has surrendered 1.60 HR/9 en route to a 4.50 home ERA at the league's most hitter-friendly venue, which boasts a park factor of 1.34.

George Springer, HOU vs. TEX ($17): Springer's been phenomenal against left-handed pitching, notching a .416 wOBA in 135 plate appearances. Maintaining that form should be a piece of cake against Martin Perez, who has allowed a .364 wOBA to batters from the right side and will be unable to put a hitter of Springer's caliber away given his putrid 5.63 K/9. This Houston home game will also be played in Tampa Bay's Tropicana Field rather than Minute Maid Park due to Hurricane Harvey, and the Trop's park factor is .10 higher than that of Springer's usual home venue.
