Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Jose Berrios, MIN vs. CWS ($46): Berrios struck out nine White Sox hitters when he faced them last week and should have the opportunity to improve upon the five runs (three earned) he allowed over 5.1 innings, as he will take his impressive fastball (9.7 RAA) against a team who has notched a bottom five mark against the pitch. It is also worth noting that Chicago has logged just a .306 wOBA against right-handed pitching while striking out nearly 23 percent of the time.

Kendall Graveman, OAK at LAA ($36): Graveman left a bad impression on DFS players when he surrendered seven runs over two innings against the Giants in his first start off the disabled list, but the 26-year-old has turned things around, having not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last four starts. The Angels rate as a bottom 10 offense against right-handers according to wOBA, and may have an issue getting lift against a groundball pitcher like Graveman, as they have hit the ball on the ground at a 46 percent clip.

Catcher

Christian Vazquez, BOS at TOR ($13): Vazquez is still sharing time with Sandy Leon, but the 27-year-old should be afforded more at-bats against lefties due to the .231 ISO and .349 wOBA he has logged over 39 at-bats. While he has thrown the ball well overall this season, opposition starter J.A. Happ has allowed a 1.5 WHIP and a 32 percent hard contact rate at home.

First Base

Justin Smoak, TOR vs. BOS ($19): Smoak has barreled up right-handed pitching this year, as evidenced by the .285 ISO and 41 percent hard contact rate he has tallied over 368 at-bats. Meanwhile, Rick Porcello has allowed a .518 slugging percentage and a 43.4 percent hard contact rate to left-handed hitters through 81 innings.

Second Base

Jose Pirela, SD vs. SF ($15): Ty Blach has been hit hard in August, notching a 5.74 ERA through 31.1 innings. Pirela has been more productive against righties this season, but still owns a .176 ISO against his opposite hand, and should benefit from Blach's 12 percent strikeout rate against right-handed hitters.

Third Base

Mike Moustakas, KC vs. TB ($16): It would hardly be surprising if Jake Odorizzi's days in Tampa Bay's rotation were numbered, as he has allowed 14 runs (13 earned) while walking more batters than he has struck out through 17.1 innings this month. Moustakas has feasted on right-handed pitching in 2017, tallying a .294 ISO to go along with a 35 percent hard contact rate.

Shortstop

Eduardo Escobar, MIN vs. CWS ($12): Derek Holland may be another pitcher who needs to worry about his place in the starting rotation, as he has kept an ERA of at least 9.00 for each of the last three months (68.2 innings). Escobar has logged a .181 ISO and a .350 wOBA against lefties over 116 at-bats.

Outfield

Brandon Nimmo, NYM at CIN ($10): Injuries have left us with a number of value plays to consider on the Mets, but DFS players may want to start with Nimmo, who has tallied an impressive .363 wOBA and 46 percent hard contact rate against righties. Homer Bailey remains a stack target due to the 7.99 ERA he has registered over his 12 starts (56.1 innings) this season.

Adam Duvall, CIN vs. NYM ($15): Duvall has done his most severe damage against lefties in 2017, but shouldn't be overlooked against righties, against whom he has logged a .248 ISO over 375 at-bats. Rafael Montero has carried a reverse split this season, allowing a .503 slugging percentage to right-handed hitters in 43.2 frames.

Michael Taylor, WAS vs. MIA ($13): Taylor can be called upon as a value play against lefty pitching, as he has notched a .210 ISO against his opposite hand over 62 at-bats. Adam Conley has run hot and cold this season, but we can take advantage of the 5.28 ERA he has tallied in August.
