Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Gio Gonzalez, WAS at MIA ($52): Gonzalez comes into the contest sporting a 45.8 percent groundball rate, while the Marlins hit the ball on the ground at a 49.6 percent clip, which represents the highest mark in the league. The left-hander has several above average pitches in his arsenal but he will likely find the most success with his fastball, as Miami is a bottom 10 team against the pitch according to RAA.

Doug Fister, BOS vs. TOR ($38): Fister is in the middle of a nice run that has seen him put up a minimum of 21.5 DraftKings points in five of his last six starts. He is a good bet to continue this trend against the Blue Jays, who are a bottom five team against right-handed pitching according to wOBA. It is also worth noting that Toronto holds the lowest RAA in the league against the slider, while Fister has notched a 3.8 RAA with the pitch.

Catcher

Salvador Perez, KC at DET ($9): Perez has stung the ball against left-handed pitching this season, notching a .215 ISO and a 40.4 percent hard contact rate over 121 at-bats. Meanwhile, Matt Boyd has allowed a .508 slugging percentage and a 38.4 percent hard contact rate against right-handed hitters over 88.2 innings.

First Base

Yulieski Gurriel, HOU at SEA ($15): Opposition starter Andrew Moore did not perform well in his first stint with the big club, notching a 6.34 ERA with just a 10.5 percent strikeout rate over 38.1 innings. Gurriel has logged a .202 ISO against right-handed pitchers this season and represents a sneaky mid-range option for players trying to negotiate an Astros stack.

Second Base

Ian Happ, CHC at PIT ($15): Happ has shown elite power against right-handers in 2017, notching a .306 ISO over 206 at-bats. This could spell trouble for Gerrit Cole, who has allowed a 1.9 HR/9 rate and a 38.5 percent hard contact rate against left-handed hitters over 76.2 innings.

Third Base

Joey Gallo, TEX at ATL ($23): Gallo has the potential to put up big points in almost any contest, but it may be a good idea to target him against Julio Teheran, who has registered a 6.54 ERA at home this season. The right-hander has struck out just 65 left-handed batters over 87.2 innings, making Gallo's 36.2 percent punchout rate less of a factor in this matchup.

Shortstop

Didi Gregorius, NYY at BAL ($12): Gregorius' power has spiked in 2017, as evidenced by his .228 ISO against right-handed pitchers over 325 at-bats. Kevin Gausman has thrown the ball well of late but has still allowed 37 free passes to lefties over 62.1 innings while surrendering 12 homers over that span.

Outfield

Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE at CWS ($14): Reynaldo Lopez has produced wonky splits in a small sample, allowing a .647 slugging percentage to left-handed hitters over eight innings. He has walked eight batters in 16.1 innings with the big club overall. Chisenhall missed the entire month of August due to a calf injury, but represents a useful DFS option at a reasonable price, as he has notched a .283 ISO against right-handers over 159 at-bats.

Andrew McCutchen, PIT vs. CHC ($10): McCutchen has been mired in a prolonged slump, making it easy to forget that he carries a .382 ISO and a .451 wOBA against lefties this season. Jose Quintana pitched well against the Pirates in his last start but closed out August with a 5.73 ERA in 33 innings.

Curtis Granderson, LAD vs. ARI ($18): Granderson hasn't hit for average this season but has shown good power against righties, logging a .258 ISO over 298 at-bats. Taijuan Walker has allowed 30 free passes to left-handed hitters in 61.2 innings while surrendering 10 home runs over that span.
