Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Dan Straily, MIA at PHI ($40): Straily has notched a 10.7 RAA with his fastball this season, which should play well in the matchup against the Phillies, who are a bottom 10 team against the pitch. Philadelphia has struck out against right-handers nearly 24 percent of the time, while Straily owns a 12 percent swinging strike rate in 29 starts.

Chase Anderson, MIL vs. PIT ($42): Anderson has notched significantly above average marks with his fastball and changeup, two pitches the Pirates have registered bottom 10 marks against according to RAA. Miller Park can be a scary place to call home if you're a pitcher, but Anderson hasn't seemed to mind much this season, as evidenced by his 2.40 ERA over 56.1 innings.

Catcher

Mike Zunino, SEA at TEX ($16): Zunino has tallied a .259 ISO with a .351 wOBA in 81 at-bats against left-handed pitching in 2017 while opposition starter Martin Perez has allowed a .474 slugging percentage over 130.2 innings to righties. One of the major flaws in Zunino's game is his monstrous strikeout rate, which stands at 38 percent. This should be less of a factor against someone like Perez, as he has struck out just 12.4 percent of the right-handed batters he has faced.

First Base

Justin Smoak, TOR vs. BAL ($14): Smoak has struggled a bit in September, but still owns a healthy .277 ISO in 397 at-bats against right-handed pitching this season. Meanwhile, opposition starter Kevin Gausman has allowed a 1.7 HR/9 rate to lefties over 63.2 innings, while walking 39 hitters over that span.

Second Base

Ian Happ, CHC vs. NYM ($15): Matt Harvey fared a bit better against the Reds in his second start since coming off the disabled list, but has still allowed a .560 slugging percentage to lefties over 33.2 innings. The 28-year-old doesn't appear to be a power pitcher any longer, which could hurt him in the matchup against Happ, who has notched a .291 ISO against right-handed pitchers over 223 at-bats this season.

Third Base

Rafael Devers, BOS vs. OAK ($17): Jharel Cotton has the stuff to put together a fantastic performance, but it's more likely that we will see the pitcher who has allowed 13 homers and 29 walks to left-handed hitters over just 52.1 innings. Devers has actually swung the bat better against lefties in his time with the big club, but still owns a .209 ISO against righty pitchers over 115 at-bats.

Shortstop

Corey Seager, LAD at SF ($11): It is extremely rare for me to recommend a hitter in a lefty-lefty matchup, but Seager has notched a .220 ISO against same-handed hurlers over 150 at-bats this season, while Matt Moore has allowed a .614 slugging percentage over 33.2 innings against lefties. DFS players selecting Seager will almost certainly be making a scarcity play, which makes him an intriguing option at the same price as a hitter like Ketel Marte.

Outfield

Ryan Braun, MIL vs. PIT ($16): Tyler Glasnow has dominated the competition at Triple-A Indianapolis this season, but has been tagged with a 7.45 ERA and a 2.0 HR/9 rate over 54.1 innings with the big club. Braun and his .219 ISO against righties will welcome Glasnow back to the majors for his first start since June 9.

George Springer, HOU at LAA ($15): Springer has teed off on lefties this season, tallying a .269 ISO and a .419 wOBA over 119 at-bats. He will take on Tyler Skaggs, who has allowed a 1.5 HR/9 rate and a 33 percent hard contact rate against right-handed hitters over 48 innings.

Justin Upton, LAA vs. HOU ($21): Mike Fiers will make a spot start in place of Lance McCullers, who was scratched due to arm fatigue. The 32-year-old will enter the contest having allowed a 2.0 HR/9 rate against right-handed hitters over 73.2 innings. Upton has yet to show his power in 10 games since being traded to the Angels but has logged a .217 ISO against righties overall this season.
