Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Patrick Corbin, ARI at SD ($47): The Padres ripped Corbin when they faced off 10 days ago, but I'm not buying that will happen again. Outside of that start, Corbin has reached 21 fantasy points in seven of his last eight. San Diego remains one of the worst teams in the league against lefties with a .290 wOBA and 24.2 percent K rate since Aug. 1.

Steven Brault, PIT vs. MIL ($30): This isn't a safe play at all, but Brault handled the Brewers in Milwaukee in his last start, giving up just one hit in six innings of work to go with six strikeouts. Now in Pittsburgh, Brault should be in for another solid outing as the Brewers are still bad against lefties with a .301 wOBA and 26.1 percent K rate since the beginning of August.

CATCHER

James McCann, DET vs. OAK ($8): I normally only use McCann against lefties, but he has improved numbers against righties with a .367 wOBA in his last 53 plate appearances. At this price against Jharel Cotton, who has given up 14 runs to go with seven walks and eight Ks in his last three starts, that's hard to pass up.

FIRST BASE

Dominic Smith, NYM at MIA ($14): Smith has one of the hotter bats for the Mets this month, sporting a .441 wOBA and .357 ISO in his last 45 plate appearances against righties. That includes reaching base in 10 of the last 11 games. On the mound, Dan Straily was destroyed last time out, giving up eight runs and 13 hits to the Phillies. He's given up at least seven hits and three runs in each of his last three starts.

SECOND BASE

Daniel Descalso, ARI at SD ($12): Descalso comes at a surprisingly small salary considering he has a much better bat against righties. In his last 25 plate appearances against them, he has a .414 wOBA and .273 ISO. Luis Perdomo is conveniently worse against lefties with a .353 wOBA allowed and much smaller 13.1 percent K rate.

THIRD BASE

Jeimer Candelario, DET vs. OAK ($10): The Tigers aren't playing well, but that doesn't mean they don't have cheap bats that can take advantage of poor pitching. Candelario has been a nice addition to the squad with a .398 wOBA in his last 48 plate appearances against righties. As for Cotton, he's worse against lefties with a .361 wOBA allowed and 6.07 xFIP.

SHORTSTOP

Jordy Mercer, PIT vs. MIL ($12): Here's another cheap option to round out the infield. Mercer has little power and his .334 wOBA against lefties (last 38 plate appearances) doesn't stand out, but he'll get to face Brent Suter, who couldn't make it three innings against the Pirates last time out. Suter also has worse numbers against righties with a .322 wOBA allowed.

OUTFIELD

Yasiel Puig, LAD at PHI ($18): The Dodgers don't have many hot bats, but Puig has one of them and he brings some power with a .314 ISO and .373 wOBA over his last 36 plate appearances against righties. Plus, at least one Dodger should be used with Nick Pivetta pitching, as he's been lit up for 18 hits and 13 runs in his last two outings.

Matt Olson, OAK at DET ($22): Olson adds a bit more power against a pitcher that can be taken deep. Olson's also been hot with a .500 wOBA and .595 ISO in his last 42 plate appearances against righties. Buck Farmer may be slightly better than he was earlier in the year, but still walks a lot and has a poor 5.19 xFIP against lefties.

Brandon Nimmo, NYM at MIA ($13): Nimmo lacks the same power as the previous outfielders, but provides consistency with a .417 wOBA and .273 ISO in his last 45 plate appearances against righties. Straily is struggling and has a 4.76 xFIP against lefties this season.
