Kyle Lohse (P) MIL |
5/22/2013 |
| Lohse will miss his next scheduled start due to irritation in his elbow, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports. |
Both the nature and extent of the injury are unknown, but it will be Mike Fiers who starts Saturday, and not Lohse. Expect an update on Lohse's status as more details become available. |
|
Jason Rogers (1B) MIL |
5/22/2013 |
| Rogers went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in a game with Double-A Huntsville on Tuesday. |
Rogers continues to hit for Huntsville and now owns a .290/.316/.534 slash line to go along with nine home runs and 39 RBI in 45 games. He still is not walking much, but he has tallied 23 extra-base hits this season and currently leads the Southern League in RBI. |
|
Jeff Bianchi (SS) MIL |
5/22/2013 |
| Bianchi went 2-for-4 Tuesday and is 6-for-13 over the last three games he has appeared in. |
Bianchi missed all of April and started just once before Saturday, but he has seen a recent bump in playing time with Aramis Ramirez still not 100 percent physically and Rickie Weeks struggling to make contact. The Brewers will ride the hot hand Wednesday and give Bianchi the start at third base with Ramirez getting a day off. |
|
Aramis Ramirez (3B) MIL |
5/22/2013 |
| Ramirez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. |
Ramirez racked up seven hits over his last four games, but with his knee still not entirely 100 percent, he will get a day off with the Brewers playing an early afternoon affair Wednesday. Jeff Bianchi will man the hot corner in Ramirez's place. |
|
Hiram Burgos (P) MIL |
5/22/2013 |
| Burgos lasted just 3.1 innings Tuesday, surrendering two runs on six hits and four walks to go with three strikeouts, during the Brewers' win against the Dodgers. Despite the impending return of Tom Gorzelanny (shoulder) from the DL, manager Ron Roenicke relayed that Burgos is expected to make his next start Monday versus Minnesota, MLB.com reports. |
Burgos, who threw 88 pitches (49 strikes) Tuesday, has three consecutive abbreviated starts on his plate. During that stretch, he's posted an unsteady 11.91 ERA, 2.912 WHIP, and 8:8 K:BB ratio in 11.1 innings. His early season success seems to be working in his favor, but another feeble outing could threaten his spot in the rotation. |
|
Chris Narveson (P) MIL |
5/21/2013 |
| Narveson (finger) threw a successful bullpen session Tuesday, MLB.com reports. |
On the heels of Tuesday's outing, Narveson is ready to face live hitting again. He will throw again Friday, and if he makes it through that outing clean, will head out on a rehab assignment at the beginning of next week. |
|
Tom Gorzelanny (P) MIL |
5/21/2013 |
| Gorzelanny (shoulder) threw 20 pitches in a live batting practice session Tuesday, MLB.com reports. |
Tuesday's outing was the last step in Gorzelanny's recovery, putting him on track to rejoin the big club Friday. Expect him to resume pitching in late-inning situations upon his return. |

11/8/2008 |
| After firing manager Ned Yost down the stretch of the regular season, Brewers GM Doug Melvin acted quickly following the end of the 2008 MLB playoffs to fill the voids in his coaching staff. Melvin began by naming former Oakland A's manager Ken Macha as the new manager and promoting last season's bench coach -- and interim manager -- Dale Sveum to hitting coach. Then, in a somewhat surprise move, the Brewers hired departed Mets manager Willie Randolf as their bench coach. All of this following the Brewer's best season showing since they reached the world series in 1982. Now we know that the Brewers are willing to spend big time money for big time names, but it is yet to be seen if such high profile hirings will translate to post-season success. If nothing else, GM Doug Melvin is attempting to change the culture in Milwaukee, from a small-market, small budget, and small potential organization, to a perennial contender. |
