RotoWire Update Recommendation
Steve Cishek (P)  MIA  5/19/2013
Cishek was lifted from a save opportunity Sunday after allowing a hit and a walk with two outs in a one-run game. Cishek entered the game after starter Ricky Nolasco yielded a double to Didi Gregorius to start the ninth inning. Gregorius later came around to score on a pair of sacrifices. Cishek then allowed a single to Eric Chavez and walked Martin Prado prior to being lifted in favor of Mike Dunn, who allowed a walk but escaped with the save. Cishek has pitched pretty poorly for the majority of the season and owns a 4.91 ERA. Still, he's 5-for-6 in save chances and figures to get at least another shot or two in the closer role. If he falters, A.J. Ramos and Ryan Webb would likely join Dunn in the mix for saves.
Mike Dunn (P)  MIA  5/19/2013
Dunn recorded the final out of the Marlins' 2-1 victory Sunday to earn his first save of the season. Steve Cishek was brought on to lock down the save after Ricky Nolasco tossed eight brilliant innings against Arizona. Cishek allowed an inherited runner to score while recording a pair of outs before allowing a single and a walk. Dunn loaded the bases with a walk before escaping with the save. If Cishek's struggles continue, Dunn, A.J. Ramos and Ryan Webb would be the most likely candidates for save opportunities.
Ricky Nolasco (P)  MIA  5/19/2013
Nolasco bounced back in a huge way, striking out 11 batters in eight innings to earn his third win of the season. The Marlins' righty tossed 74 of 110 total pitches for strikes as he dispatched the Diamondbacks and ended his team's seven-game losing streak. Nolasco scattered five hits and one walk and was given the chance to complete the shutout before allowing a double to begin the ninth that would later account for Arizona's only run. Nolasco will carry a 3.96 ERA into his next start against the White Sox.
Greg Dobbs (3B)  MIA  5/19/2013
Dobbs is sitting Sunday in favor of giving Nick Green a start at first. Dobbs is hitting just .216 through 148 at-bats this season, but the Marlins have continued to play him most days. Logan Morrison (knee) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Monday and appears on schedule to return May 30 or shortly thereafter. Once Morrison returns, Dobbs' playing time is likely to dry up significantly.
Chris Coghlan (OF)  MIA  5/19/2013
Coghlan is getting a second straight start Sunday. Coghlan is starting in left field over Juan Pierre. He's been getting some extra run with Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) out and should continue to rotate into the lineup regularly as long as the big guy remains sidelined.
Juan Pierre (OF)  MIA  5/19/2013
Pierre is sitting Sunday in favor of giving Chris Coghlan a second straight start. Pierre had started the last six games and should be back in the starting lineup Monday against the Phillies.
Ryan Webb (P)  MIA  5/18/2013
Webb fired 1.1 scoreless innings Saturday during a 1-0 loss to the Reds. Webb has not allowed a run in his last 16.2 innings pitched and now boasts a stellar 1.48 ERA and 0.86 WHIP over 24.1 innings on the season. If Steve Cishek were to falter in the closer role, Webb would be in the mix for saves along with A.J. Ramos and Mike Dunn.
Steve Cishek (P)  MIA  5/18/2013
Cishek worked a scoreless ninth inning in Miami's 1-0 loss to the Diamondbacks. It was a nice bounce-back effort in a non-save situation after Cishek allowed three earned runs over 1.2 innings in his last outing. Cishek's 5.09 ERA , 1.36 WHIP and nine walks in just 17.2 innings all paint the picture of a struggling hurler, but surprisingly, Cishek is 5-of-6 in save conversions on the season. He figures to have a pretty long leash at the back of the Miami bullpen.
Tom Koehler (P)  MIA  5/18/2013
Koehler allowed one run over six innings and was the losing pitcher Saturday against the Diamondbacks. He gave up three hits while walking two and striking out seven. A very strong start from Koehler, who simply got no run support from his offense as he was unfairly charged with a loss for a very strong start. The loss drops his record to 0-2 on the season to go along with a 2.82 ERA and 17 strikeouts.
Gil Velazquez (3B)  MIA  5/18/2013
Velazquez agreed to a minor league deal with the Marlins and will report to Triple-A New Orleans, Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Valezquez caught on with the Yankees this winter after spending most of 2012 in the Marlins' system. He'll function as infield depth in the minors.
