With Jason Kendall unlikely to return in 2010, the Brewers are adding depth behind the plate in an effort to support the development of top catching prospect Jonathan Lucroy. General manager Doug Melvin is planning on giving Lucroy an invitation to spring training, but Kottaras could be a viable option to share the workload this season after he was a spare part in Boston in 2009. |

| After firing manager Ned Yost down the stretch of the regular season, Brewers GM Doug Melvin acted quickly following the end of the 2008 MLB playoffs to fill the voids in his coaching staff. Melvin began by naming former Oakland A's manager Ken Macha as the new manager and promoting last season's bench coach -- and interim manager -- Dale Sveum to hitting coach. Then, in a somewhat surprise move, the Brewers hired departed Mets manager Willie Randolf as their bench coach. All of this following the Brewer's best season showing since they reached the world series in 1982. Now we know that the Brewers are willing to spend big time money for big time names, but it is yet to be seen if such high profile hirings will translate to post-season success. If nothing else, GM Doug Melvin is attempting to change the culture in Milwaukee, from a small-market, small budget, and small potential organization, to a perennial contender. |
