Recent Blog Post: Long Game Extra: Live-tweeting the Auction
My home AL-only keeper league auction is today (12 teams, 5x5, pretty standard roto ultra rules with the addition of an in-season salary cap), and I figured I might as well live-tweet the thing. Why? For reasons!

If you want to follow along, my Twitter handle is @AntonSirius. I'm starting it out with $173 (only three teams have more, with the big stack carrying $208), and the following roster:

C: Salvador Perez $3B, Tyler Flowers $3C
1B: Eric Hosmer $17Y
SS: Eduardo Nunez $6C
CI: Chris Carter $8B
OF: David Murphy $4B, Jonny Gomes $1B
P: Yu Darvish $31B, Matt Moore $10B, Brett Anderson $2B, Felix Doubront $2B
Minors: Bubba Starling, Michael Choice, Jonathan Schoop

(Note: for long-term contracts we bump the letter designation to the end of the alphabet so that they expire at the end of their 'Z' season.)

As you can see, I'm set at catcher and don't have to worry about scarcity there, but I've got no closers so I'll have to pay full retail for a couple. Third base is also an issue, as there are only three good ones (Miguel Cabrera, Adrian Beltre and Evan Longoria) available. All the young middle-tier guys are protected, so the drop-off in talent after the big three is STEEP. If I don't land one of them, I could be looking at a Matt Dominguez as the fallback. That's scary.

Nunez was the only really difficult choice, but with Jeter out for a bit, the other injury issues the Yankees have and me lacking steals, $6 didn't seem like much of an overpay and I could easily see him going for more at auction. The alternative would have been something like Eric Sogard at $1, and that seemed like a much bigger risk.

RotoWire Update Recommendation
Sam Fuld (OF)  TB  5/22/2013
Fuld has recorded four hits in his last 21 at-bats during the month of May for a .190/.320/.286 slash line. Fuld has struggled this season in limited game action with a .177 batting average on the season and only two stolen bases. With a logjam of players able to play in the outfield for the Rays in combination with Fuld's struggles at the plate have limited his playing time so far this season.
Jamey Wright (P)  TB  5/22/2013
Wright has posted a 0-1 record and 4.15 ERA in 19 appearances this season for the Rays. The wily veteran Wright has been able to eat up innings in the bullpen for the Rays. He has been off the mark in his past four outings allowing six earned runs and walking four. Wright is primarily working in low-pressure situations of middle relief or in mop-up duty and his role should be steady going forward.
Kyle Farnsworth (P)  TB  5/22/2013
Farnsworth allowed a walk-off single to Jose Bautista who was the only batter he faced in the game on Wednesday against the Blue Jays. Farnsworth has struggled to an 8.44 ERA this season and also has a 2.250 WHIP in 15 appearances. He has been able to post a 2-0 record but generally is not part of the group of relievers used in high-pressure situations at this point. He will not be seeing any conventional save situations in the near future for the Rays.
Fernando Rodney (P)  TB  5/22/2013
Rodney blew his fourth save of the year Wednesday, allowing a game-tying home run to Jose Bautista. After giving up the home run, Rodney got a broken bat ground out and gave up a walk, and was promptly removed from the game by manager Joe Maddon in favor of Joel Peralta, who finished the inning. Unfortunately this is becoming a theme with Rodney and it wouldn't be a shock if his job security was in jeopardy. Peralta should be next in line for the saves should Rodney lose his job, but former closer Kyle Farnsworth, who saved 25 games for the team in 2011, also lurks in the bullpen.
Jeremy Hellickson (P)  TB  5/22/2013
Hellickson gave up two earned runs on four hits over eight innings Wednesday against Toronto while striking out four. Hellickson was in-line to pickup the win until Fernando Rodney blew the save in the ninth. After giving up a run in the first inning, Hellickson was dominant the rest of the way, and looked like the quality pitcher he can be. He'll look to get back into the win column on Tuesday when he takes on the light-hitting Marlins at the Trop.
Jake Odorizzi (P)  TB  5/22/2013
Odorizzi will make his next start Monday against the Marlins, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Odorizzi was originally scheduled to start Sunday against the Yankees, but with the Rays off on Thursday, manager Joe Maddon elected to keep Alex Cobb on his same schedule so he could make the Sunday start. It nonetheless works out well for Odorizzi, who should fare better against the Marlins' punchless offense than he would have against the Yankees.
Alex Cobb (P)  TB  5/22/2013
Cobb will have his next start moved up a day to Sunday, the Tampa Bay Times reports. The Rays have a scheduled off day Thursday, so the move with allow Cobb to remain on four days' rest after he pitched Tuesday night. Jake Odorizzi will get bumped back to Monday as a result of the decision.
Matt Joyce (OF)  TB  5/22/2013
Joyce, who is not in the lineup Wednesday due to a strained right hamstring, said that he's "feeling pretty good" and may be permitted to pinch hit, the Tampa Bay Times reports. The Rays have an off-day Thursday, after which Joyce expects to be cleared for action. Look for him to rejoin the lineup for Friday's game versus the Yankees.
Matt Joyce (OF)  TB  5/22/2013
Joyce (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Joyce was taken out of Tuesday's game with the setback, and while the Rays said the move was precautionary, the setback will cost him at least one game. Sean Rodriguez will enter the lineup in Joyce's place.

TB  8/27/2008
The Rays have announced whom they'll send to the Arizona Fall League this winter, the Tampa Tribune reports. Triple-A RHP Chris Mason will join five Double-A players (LHP James Houser, RHP Ryan Reid, C Matt Spring, IF Rhyne Hughes and OF J.T. Hall) on the roster of the Peoria Javelinas this fall.
  3/27/2008
The Rays have already set a franchise record for most spring training wins in one season (17-6-2 through Wednesday), the St. Petersburg Times reports. While everyone involved quickly admits that spring training records don't mean much, Rays manager Joe Maddon takes their spring record as just one piece of evidence that the Rays have "been doing the little things properly" this spring. The times also did some research to show that, perhaps, extreme success in the spring is a sign of good things to come; of the five best spring won-loss records posted since 1980 (a list the Rays would crack at their current pace), each of those five teams made the playoffs.
