Recent Blog Post: Long Game Extra: Live-tweeting the Auction
My home AL-only keeper league auction is today (12 teams, 5x5, pretty standard roto ultra rules with the addition of an in-season salary cap), and I figured I might as well live-tweet the thing. Why? For reasons!

If you want to follow along, my Twitter handle is @AntonSirius. I'm starting it out with $173 (only three teams have more, with the big stack carrying $208), and the following roster:

C: Salvador Perez $3B, Tyler Flowers $3C
1B: Eric Hosmer $17Y
SS: Eduardo Nunez $6C
CI: Chris Carter $8B
OF: David Murphy $4B, Jonny Gomes $1B
P: Yu Darvish $31B, Matt Moore $10B, Brett Anderson $2B, Felix Doubront $2B
Minors: Bubba Starling, Michael Choice, Jonathan Schoop

(Note: for long-term contracts we bump the letter designation to the end of the alphabet so that they expire at the end of their 'Z' season.)

As you can see, I'm set at catcher and don't have to worry about scarcity there, but I've got no closers so I'll have to pay full retail for a couple. Third base is also an issue, as there are only three good ones (Miguel Cabrera, Adrian Beltre and Evan Longoria) available. All the young middle-tier guys are protected, so the drop-off in talent after the big three is STEEP. If I don't land one of them, I could be looking at a Matt Dominguez as the fallback. That's scary.

Nunez was the only really difficult choice, but with Jeter out for a bit, the other injury issues the Yankees have and me lacking steals, $6 didn't seem like much of an overpay and I could easily see him going for more at auction. The alternative would have been something like Eric Sogard at $1, and that seemed like a much bigger risk.

RotoWire Update Recommendation
Nick Tepesch (P)  TEX  5/23/2013
Tepesch (finger) completed a bullpen session Thursday without any issues and seems all set to start Sunday against the Mariners, FOX Sports Southwest reports. Although he was scratched from Wednesday's turn with a blister, Tepesch has progressed sufficiently since that time and should be deployed as normal against the Rangers. Despite unexpectedly winning a rotation spot out of spring training, Tepesch has turned in some quality results, delivering a 3.98 ERA and 1.32 WHIP through eight starts.
Colby Lewis (P)  TEX  5/23/2013
As expected, Lewis (forearm) will move his rehab to Triple-A Round Rock, where he'll start Saturday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Lewis came through his bullpen session unscathed and will advance to Triple-A. He may require multiple starts with Round Rock after showing diminished velocity during his most recent rehab appearance at Double-A Frisco.
Mark Teahen (OF)  TEX  5/23/2013
Teahen agreed to a minor league contract with the Rangers on Thursday, MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports. Teahen posted just a .571 OPS in 22 Triple-A games before being released by the Diamondbacks, but he will get a fresh start with the Rangers. Expect him to report to Triple-A Round Rock.
Ian Kinsler (2B)  TEX  5/23/2013
Kinsler (ribs) expects to return when first eligible on June 2, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. We'll get a better idea if that's still the case in a week when he starts to ramp up baseball-related activities, but all signs point to an early return at this point.
Alexi Ogando (P)  TEX  5/23/2013
Ogando (biceps) is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session early next week, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Ogando will likely need a rehab start or two before rejoining the rotation, so a mid-June return seems likely at this point.
Martin Perez (P)  TEX  5/23/2013
Perez tossed seven shutout innings at Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday and could be a candidate to rejoin the rotation next week, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Texas will need a starter for Monday, with Josh Lindblom and Ross Wolf expected to be considered along with Perez.

TEX  11/23/2004
Pitching coach Orel Hershiser and hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo agreed to new contracts with the Rangers on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports. Jaramillo agreed Monday to a three-year deal with the Rangers. Hershiser's new deal is for the 2005 season. The Rangers also will keep first-base coach DeMarlo Hale, bullpen coach Mark Connor, third-base coach Steve Smith, and dugout coach Don Wakamatsu.
  9/18/2004
The low Single-A Clinton Lumber Kings announced Saturday that they have signed a player development contract with the Texas for two more years.
  6/22/2003
The Rangers have lost 19 of 21 games, their worst stretch over that span of games since 1972.
